Character/Costume Description

Undershirt is made from a cream
colored jersey cotton fabric. The fabric
was sprayed with a diluted black acrylic
paint to achieve the proper gray
undertone and weathered appearance.
The shirt was initially sewn on a
machine and then top-stitched by hand
to match the rough stitching as seen in
reference photos of Rey in the Star
Wars Visual Dictionary. The cap sleeves
have unfinished edges and feature
hand-stitched intersecting seams on
the left and several semi-vertical seams
on the right. The bottom hem of the
shirt, which hits just below the hips, is
folded up from the bottom resulting in
a smooth appearance with no obvious
stitching. The v-neck is top stitched and
is visible while wearing the gauze

Pants are a thin, tan, cotton fabric
which has been sprayed several times
with a diluted black acrylic paint to
achieve the gray undertones. Staining
on the pants was created with ash and
diluted paint. The pants fit loosely in
the legs and end just below the knee.
The cuffs are created by long strips of
fabric (one on each side of the knee,
approximately 24 inches in length) that
are wrapped around the leg and
knotted on the inner side.

Tabard is made from one continuous
piece of tan colored cotton gauze with
gray undertones (measuring
approximately 7 yards in length) that
has been given a weathered
appearance through a process of
dipping and spraying with diluted
acrylic paint and being spot-rubbed
with ash. The edges of the gauze are
unfinished. The tabard, which crosses
in the front and hangs straight on
either side in the back, is gathered and
secured at the shoulders of the
undershirt. The loop on the right hits at
mid-calf (below the cuff of the pants
and above the boot top). On the left
side, the end piece in the front hits
mid-calf (below the cuff of the pants
and above the boot top) and the end
piece in the back is slightly longer than
the front and hits just above the boot

The belt is made from a single piece of
full grain leather that has been dyed
brown and weathered. The leather belt
splits on either side to create an X-like
shape when laid open. The top strip is
approximately 1.25 inches wide and is
thinner than the bottom strip which
measures at 1.75 inches wide. D-rings
form the closure for both the top and
bottom strips of the belt. The D-rings
are secured by a waxed thread X which
was used to sew the leather together in
that place. The ends of the belt that
slide through the D-rings weave in and
out of two groups of two slits on the
backside of each belt strip. Twine is
wrapped around a small section of the
solid part of the belt and around the
adjacent section of the bottom belt
strip. Twine is also wrapped around a
section of the bottom belt opposite of
the previously mentioned twine-
wrapped area.

The side bag is made from a
reproduction British military bag
resembling the M37 series. It was then
cut and reshaped to look like Rey's
upcycled WWII signals satchel. A worn
alice clip is attached to the left front of
the bag. Two metal buckles are
attached to the left side panel of the
bag. The strap and buckle, which are
attached to the front right of the bag,
have been salvaged from an authentic
1942 British Military bag for a more
screen accurate appearance. The bag
has been significantly weathered by
wearing the fabric with sand paper and
staining it with a combination of diluted
acrylic paint, ash, oil pencil, and actual
dirt. The bag is worn to the left-back on
the bottom part of the belt. A
cardboard box inside of the bag adds
the stiffness as seen in the film.

Boots are the screen accurate Po-Zu
Piper V. Brand tags have been removed.
The ends of the laces are tucked in.

Arm wraps are made from vintage
Boots brand crepe bandages from the
1940s. Approximately 1/2 inch of the
bandage strip is lightly sewn to a sock
(toe cut out, dyed light brown by
coffee) that slides over the wearer's
arm. The bandage is then wrapped
around the arm and tucked in at the
end to secure.

The bracer is made from genuine
leather that threads through itself to
fasten around the wearer's left wrist
over the arm wrap. The leather forming
the inset is mostly smooth and honey
brown in color while the main piece of
the bracer is brown and has texture.

Naturally dark brown hair is worn in
three tight loops beginning at the crown
of the head and ending at the base of
the scalp. Tendrils of hair are pulled out
at the sides. Baby oil is applied to hair
and skin to create a perspiration-like

The lightsaber is custom made by
Ultrasabers. The details of the Graflex
hilt were selected to match those of the
saber used by Rey in The Force
Awakens. The blade is Guardian Blue
with the flash on clash option and is
reinforced to withstand heavy dueling.
The lightsaber features screen accurate
sounds for powering on and off, gliding
through the air, and impact.
