Y-Wing Longprobe "Bouncing Bantha"

Character/Costume Description

This costume depicts a Y-Wing pilot assigned to the Alliance Fleet from between Episodes IV and V (The Battle of Yavin till the Battle of Hoth) Like most Y-Wing Pilots of the period, his uniform is indistinguishable from that of the standard X-Wing pilot.

The pilot is Miraluka, a near-human race born genetically blind but capable of seeing using their inherent connection to the force. Miraluka traditionally wear face coverings that mask their empty, vestigal eye sockets. I have chosen to go with one of the simpler types depicted in the various sources, as it works more practically with a pilot's helmet. I do have a more elaborate version which I intend to wear with an "out of flightsuit" officer's uniform at some stage.

Like most members of his species, especially around this time frame, Xeo is sensitive enough to see with the Force, but not necessarily capable of being trained as a Jedi.

Xeo Xenonis, callsign was orphaned just before the rise of the Galactic Empire, beginning a long youth of moving from refugee camp to refugee camp as the new Imperial administration attempted to determine what to do with remained of the "politically questionable" Miraluka civilization.

As a teenager, Xeo adopted the pseudonym by which he was known after hearing a popular Republic era audio drama about the misadventures of an intergalactic insurance salesman come galactic adventurer.

Not long after adopting his new identity, Xeo escaped aboard a tramp shuttle smuggling food and medicine into one of the nameless camps he made home. After spending some time with the smugglers, Xeo found that, like many of his species, he was actually a better than average pilot.

Every member of the Alliance has his or her own reason for joining the Rebellion, and Xeo's was typical: an encounter with slavers "licensed" by the Empire finally convinced him to care about more than his own survival, and it wasn't long before he contacted a "friend of a friend" who gave him the information to join the Alliance.

Because of his experience flying various large cargo craft, Xeo began his career as a shuttle pilot with the Alliance Fleet. After Yavin, Xeo was one of several pilots from the support services "temporarily" seconded to a second line combat squadron - in this case, an squadron of Republic-Era Y-Wings. The "temporary assignment" became permanent when Xeo was authorized to fly the Y-Wing Longprobe, which he continued to fly throughout the Galactic Civil War.

When asked by a senior officer to give an honest assessment of the flight characteristics of the new craft, he commented that the Longprobe "hit like an angry Bantha, but unfortunately, she still handles like one too." The name stuck, and the unofficially christened "Bouncing Bantha" became Xeo's most prized assignment.

Records of Xeo Xenonis cease shortly after the Battle of Endor. The New Republic has no information on his current whereabouts.
