Tython Troop Report

Event: Science At The Movies – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Location: Duffield Hall, The ANU Mt. Stromlo Astronomical Observatory, Canberra, Australia.
Date: 4th May 2018
Time: 7pm -10 pm
Weather: Dark, Cold and Windy

Legionnaire/Wrangler:
Sharon Doig – Cadet Jedi Librarian

501st Black Tower Squad Troopers:
Darren Marks – Shore Trooper
Amy Armriding – Imperial Pilot
Tony Armriding – Scout Troopers

Mission Report:

The 501st Troopers and I got a bit lost trying to find Duffield Hall at the Mt. Stromlo Astronomical Observatory. We all drove a bit too far up the mountain and ended up at the Cafe instead of the administration block. I eventually got to Duffield Hall, after phoning a friend who works there for directions. I found our contact, scouted the location for OH&S issues and settled in and waited for the Black Tower Troopers to arrive.

I didn’t kit up because it was so cold but I helped my fellow Star Wars brothers and sisters to do so. Then we headed out to meet and interact with the arriving public. They really got into the spirit of things by taking lots of selfies with my light sabre and our imperial friends.

The event got under-way about 7:15 pm but Darren and I were tired so we decided to leave early. However, Amy and Tony stayed behind to enjoy the movie and the panel discussion.

Thank you to Brittany Carter who organised food, ice cream and a drink for all of us. There was plenty of parking close by and storage for our gear.

Venue Notes: Duffield Hall is a very small and only has room for four characters on site.

Mission Status:

The event was a success! We enjoyed interacting with the public a lot and especially enciuraging them to take selfies in character. This small event would be perfect for cadets starting to learn how to wrangle and work with the public. I would definitely volunteer again at another Mt. Stromlo Star Wars event.
