Reviewing the current standard each section at a time until we figure out the best way to re-write all these:

Current Standard:
1. Shirt:

Tan or beige short sleeved shirt, with the following elements included:

a. Sleeves should reach almost to the elbow with a wide approximately 3” / 7.5 cm cuff folded up.

b. Each sleeve features a vented pocket (approximately 4” by 5” / 10 cm by 12.5 cm) and flap* partially sewn to the outside of each sleeve. The pocket should lay over the cuff.

c. The collar on the shirt is loose fitting, and have a pointed shape.

d. The shirt closes right over left and lie open to the upper breastbone with no visible closures.

A couple things... We should remove the "should" since that was specified as a word to avoid. I wonder if we should specify about how tall the flap is? I have to measure mine but it looks about 1.5". I'm not sure how to describe the collar without using sewing terms, but I wonder if we should point out the lapel collar. It is also most likely a cotton shirtweight or bottom weight.

Thanks for getting this started.

Eliminating "should" isn't too hard. We can just phrase things like "Sleeves are..."

I feel like sewing terms could be used as long as they are easy to understand and easy to translate. We just need to keep an eye on the clarity of language.

I think it's perfectly fine to point out all the details that exist, we just might need to move some of them to 'optional details' based on the new guidelines.

Yes, we want to have more details to add as optionals, so please write them down. Smile
And I think it has been established that sewing terms are okay as long as they are easy to understand and translate. So basic sewing terms are fine. (And sometimes there simply isn't another way or better way to describe things either).
