Well here we go again!!!!....Christmas in August....Dont we wish the weather was a little cooler.
Hopefully this will put a spring in your step.
Just like last year, and 34 parades before that, DOMINION is doing it again.
They already have the application up online to be filled out by returning members and once again we are going to try and group up with Garrison Tyranus, and the Mandalorian Mercs so that we can split the entry fee since this year it is $200. I will be looking once again for help with this entry fee from those who are participating and if you arent and you are feeling generous by all means thank you.
The typical information is below.
The date this year is SATURDAY DECEMBER 1st, 2018 AT 10:00AM
The Parade will depart from the Science Museum on West Broad Street at 10am and continues East until ending on Seventh Street around noon. Last year's holiday event attracted more than 250,000 spectators from all over Virginia, with thousands more watching a live television broadcast. It is the largest single day event of the year in Virginia. This year's Parade will have huge high-flying balloons, elaborate floats, star spangled marching bands and as always, SANTA CLAUS!
The route is about 2 miles in length down the main thoroughfare in Richmond
This past year, the Rebel Legion, the 501st and the Mandolorian Mercs marched in the parade under ONE NAME - STAR WARS COSTUMING ORGANIZATIONS, but they let us MARCH UNDER SEPARATE BANNERS.
We are considering this a Medium profile event, meaning, this is an official Rebel Legion event that does not involve Lucasfilm Ltd. and is for RL promotion or charity. A formal costume is the requirement unless otherwise requested/permitted.
All decisions regarding costume types for events are up to the Base Commander, Event Coordinator, the Rebel Legion Event Officer, and Legion Council.
Just like last year we will try to have an RL Dinner the night before and a lunch after the march. And just like last year, we will need to be there around 8 AM in order to be counted for the event.
Last year's weather was absolutely BEAUTIFUL
The cost of marching is $200 for a non profit organization WHICH HAS GONE UP since last year. We had an incredible turnout with about 55 showing up BETWEEN THE 3 GROUPS.
We are going to do it the same as last year with regards to the money involved. I am going to take donations until right before the deadline for the application to go in so that we have a FIRM COMMITMENT from attending persons. I know that the base will have to cover some of the cost up front to put the application in, but I am hoping that we as members of the base will be able to cover the cost without relying on any one individual.
IF YOU WISH TO DONATE YOU CAN SEND THE FUNDS TO STOAGIE
Please contact him directly to help out with the Parade cost
Just to give a little background:
This parade is sort of like Richmond's version of the Rose Bowl Parade in California. The Parade is broadcast LIVE on the local PBS network of Richmond, and will be rebroadcast on Christmas Day and will be ON DEMAND from COMCAST.
TV: The Parade is broadcast LIVE on WTVR-CBS 6 the day of the parade from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
A few years ago a small group of RL and 501st did an interview with CBS 6 and it went over great and we had a fabulous time doing it.
I am hoping we can get everyone from last year as well as more from neighboring bases. As always the more the merrier.
I will be extending this invite to Terrapin Base and anyone in Freedom Base can invite others to join in as long as it is anApproved Rebel Legion Costume
If you are interested in joining in the Reindeer Games just like last year, post your interest and we will go from there.
It would be great to see some of the folks that werent able to attend last year, be able to come this year.
I would love to see a good sized group this year, especially with the addition of some of our newest and returning members.
Please lets please try to keep this to one Face Character per movie/costume
Example....
you can have multiple Leias as long as they are in different costumes and such...no 2 EP 4 Leias in the White Gown, but we can have
ANH Leia in Death Star white gown
ANH Leia in Ceremonial outfit
ROTJ Leia Bousch
ROTJ Endor Leia
ROTJ Ewok Encampment outfit
You get the drift...
same with Anakin, Obi-Wan, Han, Luke, Padme, etc., etc.
Thanks
Thanks in advance and lets make this one bigger and better than last year.
STAY POSTED FOR MORE INFORMATION
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE AT THE MUSTER POINT NO LATER THAN 8:15
WE STEP OFF AT 10....
If you are going to the shuttle lot, here is that info and MAKE SURE TO GIVE YOURSELF AT LEAST 30 MINUTES TO GET TO THE MUSTER POINT FROM THE SHUTTLE
Quote:
"You MUST arrive at the set-up area at DMV and the Science Museum NO LATER than 8:15am "
"You must be in the Line Up area and checked in with your Division Captain by 9:00am
Roll Call will be at 9:30am. Any Units not in line will not be allowed to participate."
Here is parking info.
There is a shuttle lot which is listed below that will take you to the muster point at the Science Museum. This lot is about 3 blocks down on 7th Street past the Coliseum where the parade ends.
Here is the info about the lot:
There is no physical address for the parking lot.
It is typically a GRTC lot and lot for VCU called Lot I
VCU LOT I
and it is where the shuttle will pick up.
It is literally right across 95S on 7th Street. You can get to it by taking the 3rd street exit off of 95 South and turning LEFT on Jackson, and then another LEFT on 7th Street. Go across 95 South and the lot is on your left.
or you can plug this into the Hyperdrive Navigator:
992 N 7th St
Richmond, VA 23219
------------------------------
As far as the dinner the night before I am still open to suggestions but O'Charleys midtown is still fine with me as it is our old standby:
6291 W. Broad Street
Richmond, VA 23230-2204
(804) 673-8233
If you are coming in from out of town or are in town and want to join us feel free to mosey in and grab a brew with us. We will probably be there around 7:30ish.

At this point, unless I have a certain amount of progress on the personal health front, this will have to be the first one I sit out in 12 years.
Last year was extremely rough, and my family does not want to see me in the state I was in when we finished the parade. I took 4 days to recover from it. Due to my tendency of trying to be tough and just get through things, my family is coming down hard on this.
I should not have tried to walk the whole thing, but by the time we got to where I needed to call it quits, there was no way to exit the parade without trying to wade through a crowd.
So this is hugely a physical limitation for me at this point.
The other issue is the state of my costume/s. My main one needs to have tunic replacement, and hasn't yet, and none of my other costume projects are done either, I also do not see them getting done by the time the parade comes, due to financial restraints.
I'm going to take the next 5 months as they come and we'll see where things turn out.
If there is no improvement in my physical health and ability, and I don't manage to address my costumes by then, I'll have to sit this one out. _________________ "So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause..."

Well we would love to help you not miss this year. We will hopefully this year have the truck again and if we have to have Obi Wan in there with Chewie, then so be it.
We will make it work somehow.
We hope you feel better. _________________ "Why, you stuck up,..half-witted,..scruffy-looking,..nerf-herder!"..."Who's scruffy-looking?"

If we could find more trucks there could be Chewie in one and Obi-Wan and R4 in another if Lisa is open to it, granted she's wanting to march in her Hera, but maybe she has someone else who can operate R4 for her (at least the head that is)?
I'm not saying that would make it possible yet cause I still have to either get my tunics replaced by then, or hope I lose enough weight to decently fit in the ones I got.
The weightloss has a monkey wrench in it, with the lymphedema I deal with, a few months back I swelled up in 1 week I was 15 pounds heavier, a week later it was gone. So while I'm trying to move it steadily downwards my other issues turn it into a rollercoaster.
I will get talking with Lance in a week or two. His mother just passed away and I really don't want to bother him at this moment with this as it is a bit more trivial than family matters. He does have the material, and we were kinda optimistically waiting for a little more weight loss, but maybe the best bet is to just get them made now.
My hope is everything lines up to make it possible for me to do the parade, I haven't missed one yet and me and my stubborn self do not want to miss one now.
I've got time to work on everything, so I'm definitely attempting to work towards it. _________________ "So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause..."

Currently I am trying to work on getting Tom Bostic's Landspeeder so that we can have an ANH Farmboy Luke with a 3PO body and maybe have Garth ride in it as Old Obi Wan
Even if Lisa went as Hera, her R4 could be static.
I will see about how many trucks we can get. _________________ "Why, you stuck up,..half-witted,..scruffy-looking,..nerf-herder!"..."Who's scruffy-looking?"

I got a pickup! Unfortunately I sold my banners & tablecloth to another member to fund my backyard. I can drive around in my Jedi or the top half of my Clone Shocktrooper. I should be able to deck it out in the Christmas spirit, play some Star Wars music, etc. The bed has a drop gate so it shouldn't be a problem for folks to step up into the bed. We can throw Chewie and R4 in the back (if Lisa is agreeable). John, you can ride up front with me and wear the top half of your Jedi if your legs are giving you a problem. It's got a backseat also in case someone else wants to ride or we need to thrown extra gear back there. _________________ 501st/Garrison Tyranus (2006)

Thats one vehicle down. Who did you sell the banner to so that we can borrow it for the parade? _________________ "Why, you stuck up,..half-witted,..scruffy-looking,..nerf-herder!"..."Who's scruffy-looking?"

I just received an email regarding the parade and that spaces are filling up fast. I would like to get the application and the funds in to the parade POC as quick as possible.
If you are able to contribute to the $67.00 that is the Rebel Legion portion it would be greatly appreciated.
I will cover the cost to get the application in at this point.
Thanks in advance and I know that this is 2 1/2 months out but we only have 8 currently signed up on here and on the GOOGLE spreadsheet.
Please sign up if you have any desire to march in this

Just letting everyone know....we ONLY HAVE 21 persons signed up for the parade at this point. I know the number should increase but at this point between the 3 groups, this is our lowest turnout. Please go to the sign up sheet and let us know if you are able to join us and what costume.

Should be able to submit my Crait Luke for approval soon. Trying to deal with the stupid embossing on the boot heels, and that ought to be it. _________________ Eric Tank

I don't see any Chewies going and no droids, so I don't see a need to bring my truck (unless something changes) otherwise we've got good coverage here. I've gone Jedi the last 4 years so I'll go 501st this time around and walk it. _________________ 501st/Garrison Tyranus (2006)
