I'd just change this

No visible laces or outside zippers. When necessary, inside zippers are permitted, and must be concealed or match the color of the boot.

to this

No visible laces or outside zippers. Inside zippers are permitted, and must be concealed or match the color of the boot.

'when necessary' is not necessary and we should remove it for cleaner language and sentence structure. Smile The phrase 'when necessary' tends to confuse people.

Good point. Updated. Smile

Another side comment but are we allowing Rubie's pouches to be approved and if so, should that be included? I have seen some members approved with them and then others denied when they have applied with them. These are also a hard part of the costume to come by for many so perhaps giving that option should be included? Just a thought.

We don't write specific sellers or makers into standards, but we could write a costume guide about them. I think some have been approved after making modifications?

That may be a good option. I can see why we cannot/should not sellers in the standard but adding what mods can be made would help a lot of potential members, I feel.

It's definitely a worthwhile project, just not a part of the actual standard. And such a list would need maintaining and updating regularly.

The standard format rewrite guide wants us to include approximate widths on things like belts, straps, and other details. I think it would be good to include approximate measurements for the belt and armbands, and perhaps a total number of segments on the armbands.

Something like:

Quote:

  • The belt is approximately 2 inches wide.

Quote:

  • One silver armband of thin burnished silver is worn in the middle of each upper arm.
  • The armbands are made of rectangular segments, approximately 2 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide.
  • There are at least five segments, additional segments may be added to fit the costumer's arm circumference.
  • The armbands are curved to fit along the circumference of the upper arms, and evenly spaced.

Let me know if you disagree with any of these measurements or have thoughts on how to better word this. The belt I based off my Ilum Padme costume, and the armbands I just did some quick (and probably bad) math on based on screenshots. I feel like the proportions and shape of the rectangle segments are more important than exact measurements, since that'll depend on the costumer's arm circumference. (Also why I only put down a minimum of five in case someone has thin arms).

I think these are alright as approximations. Smile

How does everyone feel about adding the animated version of this as an alternate configuration of this outfit? Or is it sufficiently different that it should be its own standard?

I'd say it's sufficiently different. The inset on the chest is different; there are no seams inside it, there's elbow padding and the arm bands are much longer and not made of separate pieces. There's a front fly on the pants, the belt sits much lower and more. I think more than 20% of it changes, so it it probably wouldn't qualify as an alternate.

Excellent, we will just keep this on hold for a standard of its own.

This, and the boots/shins are different.
