So, as many TFA pilots-in-progress (and previously approved TFA pilots) have discovered, the accurate hoses for TFA chest boxes seem to be basically unavailable at this point, and the cast hoses many of us existing pilots were approved with have proven unable to withstand the strain of frequent trooping. There seems to be inconsistant messaging as to what alternatives are acceptable for replacement and/or new approvals. We have seen everything from some TFA pilots accepted with hosing that has spiral external rings, to others being rejected for not having the accurate hoses with two differently sized independent external rings.

I have been researching the most accurate alternatives that are still available, and the best I have been able to find are soviet/israeli style gas mask hoses, which only have one ring size, but otherwise seem to match the dimensions, style, and flexibility of the screen-used hoses. Would it be possible to get a ruling as to whether these are acceptable, and if they are not, determine what available alternatives would be allowed?

The accurate hoses that i did runs for back around the time of The Force Awakens look still to be in stock:
https://www.hoseworld.com/20mm-unreinforced-flexible-fuel-filler-hose-crfh-20.html

However they are expensive at £50 per hose
If there was demand for i don't mind approaching them for a bulk order again to see if the price can be reduced - with shipping to the US you may still be looking at £45-50.

Have you considered going for a Last Jedi Hose?
They're far more flexible and with the addition of the hose connector alot less problematic to wear.

We sourced ours from a Rubber\Latex fetish website in holland...although there maybe other suppliers!

Thanks for the link! It is great to know that the accurate one is still available, even if it is super expensive. I am still hoping for a ruling that allows something which can be obtained outside the UK, but this is still useful information.

As for converting to TLJ: I know some folks have taken that option. But since some folks would prefer to stay with the TFA option of not having a hose connector, getting a TFA-approval hose is still of interest.

Back when I was still a costume judge we had discussed this very matter and had agreed that as long as the hose was a flat black hose (not glossy) and wasn't thinly-ribbed like the OT X-wing pilot hose that most other hoses would be acceptable. The accurate hoses were too hard to find and it was too much to ask for applicants to hunt down that hose, not to mention the crazy price of it. The current standards also don't dictate exactly which kind of hose is required.

But that's how it was when I was still a pilot judge, so I don't know if anything has changed since then. The standards certainly haven't changed (despite my proposal).

The funny thing is, most of the current pilot judges that have an approved TFA Resistance X-wing pilot costume also aren't using the accurate hose... dunno

I know that was the way things were judged at one time. Since there seems to have been changes to how things are judged since then, it would be great if we could get some current pilot judges to make a ruling.

We have had folks approved with the cast hoses here too. The problem here is less that I am trying to figure out a solution for myself as an individual, and more that I want to figure out a more long term solution for my squadron as a whole, including new people we may have in the future. We have found that the cast hoses break down really quickly, and don't stand up well to trooping.
