I’m struggling to find a proper 2” wide belt for my Lt Connix piece, all I’ve been finding are belts with weird designs or that are way over budget ($50-$60) . I’m a college student and just don’t have that money and wanted to ask if I would be able to get away with a 1.5 belt. If not, please direct me to budget friendly ($35 or less) 2” wide belt options.

I doubt that you will find a pre-made belt for < $35. The belts are the same as worn by ANH Fleet Troopers and Officers (as well as others). The belt buckle can be bought at Tandy Leather and so can 2" leather strapping which then you can make your own. You will probably have to dye the leather too.

The RFT standard states:

6. Belt and buckle

Solid leather or vinyl – no holes or decorations.
Belt width should be 1 3/4 to 2″ wide in canyon or range tan colour
2″ buckle can be rectangular, octagonal or oval.

You may want to try ETSY also.

^^This. Except you'll want to look at the Connix specs not the RFT ones:

"Medium brown (Saddle Tan preferred) leather belt, 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 7 cm) with a weathered, silver toned, solid rectangular buckle with rounded corners. Buckle should be the same width as the belt. No visible rivets."

A belt blank from Tandy is likely your best bet. Where are you located? Maybe we can find someone local to help you dye the blank and put it together?

Keep hitting the thrift stores and yard sales. Worst case, buy a cheap leather trench coat and make one.
