Is anyone using a particular brand of material? I’m having a difficult time sourcing some and think I may just be looking for the wrong type completely.

The outer robe looks to be a silk velvet. I recently stumbled across this site, which has a great selection of dark blue colors: https://ezsilk.com/fabric/silk-velvet.html

It's hard to tell from their flat color samples which would be best, but I bet you could order swatches.

You could also do polyester velvet, which has the same kind of drape, but it is a lot shinier in flash photography. You'll want to avoid stretch or crushed (panne) velvet though. Cotton velvet might work, but it's a lot stiffer and doesn't drape/flow as well.

Fabric.com has a few options non-silk that might be in the right color range: https://www.fabric.com/find?colorfamily=blue&fabric-type=velvet&searchText=blue+velvet

If you are doing this with a group and want to get a whole bolt, Fashion Fabrics Club has some decent colors in whole bolt only: https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/Catalog?keyword=blue%20velvet&page=4

My group is using a very short ply upholstery velvet. It's very soft, but not all upholstery velvets are soft and with a nice drape, so definitely check before going this route.

This link shows it though the pictures doesn't really do it justice; the pillow picture probably shows it off the best:
https://stof2000.dk/metervarer/moebelstof/mobel-velour-martindale-40-000-krymp-2-stovet-midnatsbla

It's a dusty dark blue and matches with what is seen in the references including the tendency to shift in color depending on the lighting conditions. Smile

I found the lighter blue lining in the same store, and can't wait to get on with our group project. Very Happy

Judges and past makers, please help!
I would like to find out the exact acceptable fabric and color for the inner and outer robes.
Pulling up the links above but then I have to guess from there what color fabric to get, "dark blue" just doesn't cut it. If I buy the wrong dark blue I can't send it back or get approved.
I do not to know how to read Danish so that doesn't help me. Thank you though.
Would like specific color, codes, sku's if anybody has them.
Is 8 yards of fabric enough or too much, how much is good?
There is a lot of great WIP tutorials but no specifics or not specific enough. Great you bought it at Joann Fabric's in California in 2012 but that fabric doesn't exist now. Get my understanding and frustration?
Is there a good pattern I can find from Daddy Solo's post. Thanks Daddy.
Just want to make and get it approved, so I can troop with it.
Can all this information be post centrally? One click to find instead of search the same Senate Guard forum all day for non specific answers?
Thank you for your help.
Signed frustrated... [/u]

Unfortunately I don't think anyone knows the exact color used in the movies or have a color code, but that is also a strength in that a number of different nuances can all be approved.
Generally accepted are a range from royal blue to dusty midnight blue.
The link just says it's a furniture velvet, martindale 40.000, in dusty midnight blue. Shrinkage 2% (max).
The picture was meant as a help for what to look for. Smile

I like the furniture grade velvet, because its got a dense, short ply and can take a lot of wear.
I don't know if any newer senate guards can point you to their source if you want a US source.

For the lining of the robe should I use Taffeta Fabric or can I use anything else?
Should the lining color being a light blue or sky blue?
