We made a new type of trooper instead of adding optional stuff to the Scarif Marine CS.

Congratulations!

Great! I might want to do one of these, as I should have most of the components from other costumes, soonish. Smile

One thing I noticed, reading over the standards with fresh eyes. (This might actually affect some other standards as well, given the shared components) Regarding the PLCE belt:

"PLCE belt in tan or olive. Belt closure should be roll pin-style or silver buckle with accurate greeblie.

Optional: silver screen-accurate “energy pellets” tucked into the loops on the belt."

Thing is, a PLCE belt does not have those loops, in a stock out-of-bag configuration. They have to be added. So "the loops on the belt" is an incorrect description... unless the belt should always have the loops added. But the belt requirement does not specify that loops need to be added. SO: Are the 1" energy pellet loops required on all versions of the belt, whether they have the optional energy pellets or not?

If the added loops are optional, along with the energy pellets, this should be addressed somehow. But if the loops are required, whether or not you have the energy pellets, then that requirement should be added to the non-optional belt text.

I'm getting this explanation all twisted up a bit, but hopefully the main thrust of my point is clear. Smile

I am sorry I do not really understand where there is a problem with the wording. It is possible that I cannot see the issue because I was one of the people that helped create the CS and have a different way of looking at this.

It is a fact that a PLCE belt does not have any loops that can be used to hold the energy pellets. So the loops have to be added if someone wants to wear the energy pellets on the belt. The energy pellets and the loops that hold them are "one item". You cannot have one without the other. This "one item" is an optional item because not all Yavin Operations Troopers/Officers had them. If the belt had the loops, there were five loops on each side and each loop held one energy pellet.

If there really is a problem with the wording, then I think it will solve itself as soon as this CS is put into the new format because there will be many reference photos that will show exactly what is meant.

It's not a dire issue, more a subtle one.

Editing this line would resolve it:

Optional: silver screen-accurate “energy pellets” tucked into the loops on the belt.

Change to: (new text in red)

Optional: silver screen-accurate “energy pellets” tucked into a 1" webbing strip of loops attached to the belt.

That way, the loops are only required in the optional case.

(feel free to tweak that if you would prefer it be stated a different way, and perhaps specify a color, but this is at least an accurate description)

English is a funny language. The original phrasing implies there are loops there, which aren't actually there (unless you add them).

20 years of working in the legal profession tends to make one hyper-sensitive to subtle issues of phrasing. Wink

If this new wording makes it clearer for everyone, I am all for changing it. I think the best opportunity will probably be whenever this CS gets put into the new format. That process seems to be coming along very slowly so it might be a while before it happens.
