Hi AgnesAUT,

Seems like you’ve really gone to a lot of trouble to get this working.

Wish you luck and MTFBWY.

Where are you at with it now?

Hi, thank you for asking!
I almost feel embarrased since my progress is so slow Rolling Eyes

I plan on tackling the chest box and helmet kits hopefully in May (after our trip to Chicago), together with a friend who has more experience with ABS- and armor-parts.
I am going to sew the "strappy parts" (harness, belt, flare holders) once my friend has the prototypes of the flares done.

We've been planning on doing that for months now...

I know that a helmet is not required for approval, but I am eager on doing and wearing one ;-)
Eventually, I'll have to find a way to break in or adjust my boots which are killing me at the moment at the heels Razz

I wouldn't worry about how long it takes to complete your costume, there's no time limit. Heck, I took ten years to finish my movie accurate B-wing pilot costume, and even now I'm still making small tweaks to it. Razz

If you want to stop feeling embarrassed, then go find my wip, then look at the date on post zero. You're welcome. Wink

We just took apart my second mock up, so not close to finishing either!

I finally took the time to modify the roll pin belt buckles that I had ordered a while ago at an army supplier shop.

- I put them in a bowl with vinegar (an old bottle of malt vinegar, 5 % acid)
- I brushed the "paint" / brassy finish off with an old tooth brush
- I polished them with steel wool

Still navigating around the two major tasks (chestbox and helmet).

MINI FLARES for the belt finished.
Made of wooden dowels (beech) of 1 cm diameter, which is not quite 0,4 or 2/5 inch.

I cut the dowel to pieces of 5 cm which is the common and available width of the ribbon here, corresponding 2 inch ribbons in the US and UK I guess.
I grinded down the edges with a dremel so they would become rounded down and sanded with sand paper.
I applied primer and then spray paint (acrylic paint) in "white aluminium satin dull" and a clear coat.

I drilled a hole in each flare before painting in order to be able to skewering them for painting (I used tooth picks and egg boxes of card board), and in case I would need to fix them inside the belt in order to prevent them of falling out.

I made 8 flares in order to divide them on both sides of the belt.

BELT finished

I used silver grey ribbon of 5 centimeters (appr. 2 inch) and 2,5 centimeters (appr. 1 inch).
I applied velcro to the side of the belt that you adjust with the roll pin buckle.

Looks good! Are you using screws to hold the mini-flares in place on the belt?

To be honest, I don't know yet! I still have to do a proper test fit.
I am just waiting for the weather to cool down, it was so hot the last days.
