Ooh, I'll definitely be interested in that U-wing pilot helmet!
For sanding, do you have a random orbit electric sander? I found that one of those helped me a lot when sanding large areas on my dark trooper armor. Mine has variable speeds so it comes in pretty handy. _________________ B-wing Pilot - Jedi - Resistance X-wing Pilot - Temmin "Snap" Wexley

I have several sander options, I go with a mouse sander, then use a pen or detail sander, but honestly, I get the best results by hand. It sucks but 120, 180, 220 and I am good to go. As soon as a part comes off the printer I sand away, it helps to reduce the feeling of how much sanding to do.
I will update t e U Wing thread as soon as I lay the mold. I should be able to do that this weekend hopefully. |

The head they animated is extremely long and narrow, translating that to a real human head lead to a few differences in the shape and placement of some surface features, But other than that looks pretty good.
Compliments my other Rebels A/Y Wing. This has some accuracy issues that I will fix while post processing.

Just curious where you were got the models? made them yourself? If so, are you marketing them for Sale? |

The models were commissioned by me through Skylu props. He sells them on his etsy page.
I have been slowly redoing the Y wing helmet though. It had a ton of issues that I have now mostly fixed. A couple more but it is darn near close.
My Y wing helmet is different enough that I plan to mold and sell it. It is very distinctly different than what I had modeled originally.
With the cold weather things have slowed down but I am still plugging away.
The A wing helmet, well, it has its own issues but I decided not to redo that one, at least by hand. Been slowly sanding away on it too. |

Well, I am really almost done lol. I redid some stuff and here is some shots:
Side shot where I redesigned the inserts to curve to match the side curve:
Added the redesigned circle part and sanded to match the curve of the cheek:
Brow finally done with the added lip for the visor:
lest we forget what I am doing:
So now, I need to redo the top of the helmet to add the groove that goes around it... Means I will have to cut out the top, design and print the groove, and put it all back together. If I can do that this will be done.
If anyone sees anything, let me know to fix.I know the front chin inset is not deep enough.... but I can live with it the way it is now. |
