its been a few days, is there any furhter discussion?
Especially regarding the boots/ mocs/ construction.
How closely are we judging the boots? I have always been afraid to make my own because I would hate to put that much effort into putting the boot, and getting a big old "nope" from the judge team.
and nobody makes boots my size. Ive already asked, several times. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

I do not think we should judge the gaiters and boots too strictly. You can clearly see that the HRTs are wearing gaiters (marked dark red) because they slip a lot. The gaiters are closed on the back. They seem to be made of fabric.
The officers that are in close-up shots wear boots. The boots are someones that Luke Skywalker and Han Solo wear. They seem to be made out of suede. HRTs that have close-up shots also wear hero boots (dark green arrows).
The gaiters look bulkier than the hero boots because the extras are wearing boots under the gaiters.
Officers with Luke and Han style boots (Lieutenant Cal Alder and Major Bren Derlin)

There is an excellent tutorial for the mukluks here:
http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55085
She used a hard soled boots for reasons she mentions in the thread, but this should be adaptable for a pair of moccasins. _________________ Legion Costuming Judge: Officers, Rebel Supporters

ok now that is a level of photo discussion that I can sink my teeth into. I worked off the DVDs, and could not see that. Now I can clearly see the bottom soles with the straps holding the gaiters on. I will likely do the oficer boot because I want to do Derlin. We look alike. Its uncanny. I met John Ratzenberger in full gear and did a side by side photo after, its strange how much we look alike when I have my beard cut right.
Kristina thank yo for that link. I remember going over it when Kathy first posted it, and looking at it again, but considered it beyond my sewing skill level. I donno, Im crazy enough (and old enough) that I may just give this a go.
Looking at item 10, it is much better presented than "accurate grey or tan gaiters"
10. BOOTS
- White, ecru, or light gray moccasins
- Tan or gray gaiters are worn over moccasins or attached to shoe
- Gaiters are constructed as funnel. It is closed by pulling two white strips the width of the foot toward each other, folding the center front, then strapped.
- 3 white straps are connected to the back of the gaiter by one rivet each.
- Front of strap is secured with Velcro.
- Gaiters may be worn over boots instead of not moccasins if there are no visible laces, straps, or zippers _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr

I use the Blue Ray screencaps from starwarsscreencaps.com as may references. I only have the ST, Rogue One, Solo, and Rebel Season 4 as Blue Ray but I cannot make my own screencaps because my computer cannot play Blue Rays. I have DVDs of the OT, PT, and Rebels Season 1 to 3. Starwarsscreencaps.com now even has 4K screencaps of Star Wars, which is even better quality than Blue Ray but the colors of Rogue One are a little off.
I think we need two different descriptions for the boots and gaiters. The Hero Boots have different construction than the Support Cast Gaiters. Troopers wear both types of footwear and the CS should reflect that.
I found a photo of a Hoth Rebel Trooper with snow boots in the book The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back but I do not think that should be in the CS because we do not see his boots in the movie.

Yay, Derlin! Derlin is in an officer specific costume that is different from what the troopers wear, so make sure to post a build thread up in the officer area.
Oh and, Ben-I'm still playing catch up from the holidays. Promise I'll come look at the draft standard wording here this week sometime. _________________ Legion Costuming Judge: Officers, Rebel Supporters

about two years ago, before the layoff and before my life spiraled completey out of control, and I had to go on the road all over the US as a low pay contractor just to survive (long story) i had a commission to build Derlin. I had to ask for all my money back, because I was about to lose my house and car.
Ill have to get money to do it again.
Patricia I dont believe we need a two part description for our boots if we go with he recommendation of boots OR moccasins, because only Officers would wear the hero boot. Troopers would be in the moccasin. _________________ Once I was Dewka, but now I'm just G'nott sH'urr
