Measurements are given as approximate in standards in most cases because proportionality is the most important thing. A costume should be proportional to the wearer. I think you are overthinking this a bit. That said, to my eye, the smaller rectangles match the ref better? Are the red arrows on the ref meant to show the larger rectangles?

Those red arrows are from a previous reference photo regarding seams. I will post some better reference pics.

I do sometimes overthink things or get indecisive. Thanks for reminding me.

I peeked at the additional refs you added to your previous post- honestly, either is going to be fine. I threw the two pictures into pic collage so that they are sized similarly, oriented the same direction, and next to each other to make it easier to compare, and I agree that the longer rectangle looks like a better match. Again, though- either size rectangle is going to be fine. Measurements in the standards are approximate. Super excited to see this coming along so well- you're going to look stunning in this costume, Amy.
