Hello, im currently thinking about an A-wing Pilot Costume. The Problem is of course the Helmet.

My idea of creating the "clamp" is to take an Motorcycle Cross Helmet and cut the Front and the back of the top to get a Base to start from and attach the further Plating. The Material used for this Helmets is ABS in Common i think.

Has anybody experience in these Helmets ?
Is this possible or should i better start from scratch ?

Some study on the A-wing helmet is here

And, honestly, trying to cut a motorcycle helmet doesn't sound me too good.
The shell of any CE approved helmet (and any helmet with safety requirements) is for sure not ABS or any cheap plastic.
It's an hard composite bound of resins and nylon/kevlar fiber, more or less the ballistic "bulletproof" material of military combat helmets used by any NATO army right now.

So, cut throught this seems not so easy, I'm afraid.
And, once cut, the possibility to clean the edges seems complex too.

I've seen some motorcycle helmets where the whole face/chin lifts up instead of just a visor.. to me, those look like the could be something to be used... if you took that whole front section that lifts up off and maybe made some cuts...

problem was, I saw them used by stunt people on tv/mythbusters, and can never find them when looking online for what type of helmet they are

The helmets you speak of are called "modular" and are all over the web. I was planning on using one for the base of an armor from a RPG I want to do. Found them starting around $50.

Here is a link to one even a bit cheaper:

Snowmobile helmets also have this feature.
