Hi guys I have recentally joined the RL and I have been directed here as this is the UK forum?
My name is Josh
Male
27
West Sussex
Huge Star Wars fan TOR/EU my EU novel collection is pushing 140
Just a few questions really I'm looking to build a generic Jedi costume, I was wondering if we are allowed to buy bits? Or does it all have to be made? I was also looking at sabers, I'm abit tight for money and i found a site called ultrasabers, works out with a thick blade for dueling and couple other bits about £80 including shipping, was wondering if there is anywhere here in the UK that does custom sabers? Also is there a troop meet I could possibly attend to meet some of the guys and get some advice?
All your help is much appreciated. |

Hi Joshua and welcome to the RL forums. I think you've already created an account over on the RLUK forum so if you post over there, our members will help you along (they use that forum much more than this one).
You can certainly buy bits and pieces for your costume- it doesn't all have to be handmade and a lot of our members have used different vendors in the UK, so they'll be able to answer any queries about clothing and sabres.
Re meeting us at a troop, you can most certainly do that if we're trooping anywhere near you _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi Josh,
We are working on UK Sabersmiths at the mo, for the time being the one we recommend is jq sabers whose address is www.jqsabers.co.uk. Be prepared for a long wait though.
Ultrasabers are quality items and you can go far wrong with them.
One the robe front, we don't normally recommend going to jed robe as you would probably want to upgrade quite a lot of there robes.
You could try:
http://stores.ebay.com/evavanecek who are abroad but come with good references, optionally you could try www.clothearscostumes.com however again there is normally a 4-5 month waiting list.
Hope this helps _________________

Hi guys and thanks very much for your help. is there another UK based Jedi costumer at all?
Also i had an idea whilst i was out in the car earlier, now the Jedi OT i believe it is, is it similar to a GI i have an old akido GI far to small now but maybe i could use the shape and design to a degree to help me make my own OT |

preferably I would love to make my own costume and through that gain the experience and knowledge but there are so many guides out there and I'm pretty useless with needles etc if there was just one simple guide would be better. |

Hiya Josh,
You could try Clothears Costumes:
http://www.clothearscostumes.com
Alison has made a number of our members costumes but it depends on your budget as Alisons costumes are a bit pricey - but well worth it.
Id definitely steer clear of Jedi Robe for their jedi costumes.
With respects to you being able to log in on the uk forum, have you registered over there and if so could you let us know your user name incase your account is waiting to be activated by one of the administrators?
Look forward to trooping with you in the future and talking SW EU _________________ Jerrick Sunrunner:

I think that only costume that would be clearable with a GI is the ANH Luke Skywalker Farmboy costume. So could that be a possibility for you? _________________ Jerrick Sunrunner:

Hi Josh,
Mark is correct about the use of a karate GI
Luke ANH farmboy is the only one allowed
if you want to make your own generic jedi tunic
you could use this pattern, its called simplicity costumes 5840.
To get the skirted look to the outer tunic you would need
to mod the bottom half of your tunic pattern by adding a waist line in the right place,
to do this get someone to measure from the back of your neck down your back
& stop at where your waist would be, measure your pattern to the same point
then cut the across the pattern at that point, enlarge the bottom
part by adding more fabric & add some extra length too so you can give yourself a circular hem not a straight hem
then you would need to put some pleats/folds to the top of your skirt
so that you can match it back to the top half of the tunic
remember your waistline will be hidden by your wide obi/sash.
You can add shoulder tucks to your tunic as the sleeves are quite long
also it is good to widen the sleeves abit on the part of the pattern where they look narrow
also linning the sleeves is good so it looks more jedi
also there is a tabbard pattern which does need alot of modding to make it work,
I dont use it for that reason
there is a lot a tabard ideas on the UK forums & the USA forums too
Dont use the cloak pattern thats included with this pack as it comes
with a yolk which is no good for a jedi robe
for the jedi robe, simplicity 5794
you may need to mod the hood so its larger & add big sleeves
or have it sleevless so its like a cape with hood
& it has a fullness to it
also has an extention part to it if you are tall
better still if you can get hold of it, has it is a old pattern simplicity 9452
I love this pattern because you get a nice extra fullness to the cloak
& this one comes with a nice floppy hood which you can mod it
so you dont need the drawstring thats included in the hood
& you need to add big sleeves or have it sleeveless
this also has extention part to it if you are tall
the best place I have found to get patterns from is ebay
these patterns are very easy to follow hence the name
if you need any further assistance just drop me a PM
I am always happy to help

Yay Thank you Master Gallia just what I needed a book to get me started wonderful, I am rather happy now The generic costume doesn't matter as to the color does it? I can't wait not to get started.
I checked this morning and i can now log in to the UK forums but not sure I need to now, just kidding, should i post and introduction there as well?
I finished I, Jedi last night and straight started shadow games. i read them as i find them and buy them apart from major series NJO, Legacy, X Wing which I read in order. |
