Does anyone know what these mean or signify? I have heard them referred to as kills but any other meanings with the different colors?

Thanks!

People have attempted to retcon what they mean, but they have no true meaning.

People have referred to them as "missions completed" in their personal fluff.

As a Rebel, I like to consider them "mission victories" over kills. The yellow stands for a successful raid/disruption, while the red stands for a skirmish/battle/engagement.

Yeah, I've seen them described as "mission complete" marks and "kill marks", with red being five kills and yellow being ten kills, or something like that. But as was mentioned they have no canon meaning. For all we know they could be some sort of rank marks...

I like to think the red ones are for X wing victories and the gold are for Y wing victories since they have red and gold designations in the movies.

Except that the pilot helmets have both red and yellow markings no matter which pilot it is or which starship they pilot. Cool

Real pilots add similar markings for kill shots, or like in football (Well I dont think its "allowed" anymore) they used them for really big hits or scoring.
