I've been picking up a lot of research along the way and I thought that I'd compile it. Had a pilot costume kicking around in the back of my head for a long time now, and seem to be assembling it almost in spite of myself.
Ryloth's Uber pilot resource thread.
This thread I stumbled across has a wealth of information, rather than re-inventing the wheel I thought I'd start with that.
I've come across some interesting things of my own, so I'll add my own ideas along the way. _________________ Until our next happy meeting!

Flight suits.
The preferred RL supplier, MonCal is out of stock, and when he's in stock, delivery times are horrendously long. Feedback says that the suits are so good that when you get them, you forget about the wait...
http://www.wampawear.com/?p=775 Wampawear do suits and vests and a range of stuff for pilots.
Cosplaysky do an approvable flightsuit for $120 plus $10 or so postage per suit.

Here's some boots;
Boots: Jackboot replicas $110 including shipping.
Epic Militaria Jackboots are amazing for a wide range of costume, including Jedi. _________________ Until our next happy meeting!

I can vouch for Marks stuff too. It's fantastic. I have a set for my pilot and they are top notch! |

They're the same boots I linked in my previous boot post. My epicmilitaria boots have rubber soles and I've not slipped in them yet. I'd really like to do a side-by-side comparison, and we should be able to get that soon, I believe that our new recruit has already ordered some.
But what we know;
Epicmilitaria boots cost up to $250 delivered.
Replica boots cost $110 delivered.
Epicmilitaria boots have a noisy heelplate that makes it sound like you're walking in tap shoes but makes for a rather impressive march in a military uniform. They also have rubber inserts and I've not had a problem with slipping. Epicmilitaria are real second-hand boots used by East German soldiers. Mine are in near pristine condition, already broken in, and are of supreme quality. They may be 40 years old but they certainly don't look it!
Both look similar in photos, both are approvable for Pilots, Fleet troopers, Jedi, as well as several darkside costumes like Tie pilot, gunner and bridge crew. They also be a good Mando boot. As such, these could be a very versatile purchase!
Mark, would you be kind enough to review your replica boots, please?
What I know;
They are new, far cheaper, and have rubber soles. My biggest concerns would be the quality of leather and stitching, I think. I seriously considered getting the cheaper replicas, but decided to wait a few more weeks and save up for the real ones. _________________ Until our next happy meeting!

Most of our pilots in Melbourne have this boot and no one has had any problems. Myself have had them for many years and often wear them all day without an issue.
The treaded sole is good for grip on some of the surfaces i have been on. |

In the past we have modified standard overalls or purchased costume base which also need to be modified.
There are many now that purchase premade such as Moncal etc.
There are also some that have had them costum made in places like China and had them shipped.
The numbers in Australia don't make it a viable thing to produce. |
