Hello all,
I am brand new to the forum and costuming in general. I have some sewing background and am trying to make headway on this detailed costume. I'm safely through the research phase and am compiling my list of materials. Wanted to do something a little different and decided that Bespin Leia was a solid choice for Awesome Con (end of May). In my research, I found how detailed the embroidery on the cloak can be which made me a bit nervous. Although beautiful, I have no embroidery experience and time is not on my side.

I saw one option that seems to follow the RL guidelines for the Bespin gown with fabric paint for the cape design but wanted opinions on if it would be acceptable or not. Thanks!

Hello and welcome! I moved your topic to the correct forum, so I hope you find your way in here. Mr. Green

Currently, our standards do not require the design to be embroidered, although that is what we prefer, by far. However, as a judge, I will say that we accept painted designs instead of embroidery only in cases where the painting job can fool us into thinking it is embroidery. If that is something you believe you can achieve, I would say: go for it!

Though, please do post progress photos in here so that we can check in on you. That way, if we think changes need to be made to your paining, you can hear that earlier in the process, rather than once you submit the costume.

Lovely costume. One of my personal favorites. Very Happy

What Jenna said. Make some small test samples first and show them to us. It does have a lot of embroidery and yes, that will take some time. Finishing this by May may not be realistic. But do give it a shot and see how it goes.
