Hi,
Apologies if I should be posting this in a different place in the forum, but I have been really enjoying the threads here. I would be interested in purchasing a finished life-sized 1:1 R2D2, but am not sure where to begin.

Do some of you know of anyone who would custom build one for me? Are there existing channels for this? Apologies if these questions are naive, just looking to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks!
-Dan

Hello Dan,
As an member of the R2 Builders group we don't sell a competed droid. There are strick guide lines we must follow. You are more than welcome to join and I have started an East TN R2 Builder group to help each other build there own droid.

FYI: As I understand it, Randy doesn't make anything himself. He is simply the middleman.
He was also banned from the R2 Builders club for his selling practices.

Plans with exact measurements are posted on the R2 Builders Yahoo group.
Although I heard that they will be moving things away from the Yahoo group since Yahoo changed their group format.
I don't know when that will take place.

You will need to sign up and get approved to gain access.

Check out the Styrene droid plans and instructions that are posted. They can be adapted to cardboard.
If you want a better quality droid, you can purchase about $300 of flat sheet styrene and build about 90% of an astromech out of that alone using only simple tools.

Just getting back to these forums since Celebration. The blueprints are now on the astromech.net website. You must be a member of the R2 BC to access the blueprints. Don't worry, it's free and just registering for the forums and wiki. I believe the blueprint link is somewhere near the top of the forums. They are still in the process of transferring files from the Yahoo group, so if you don't see something you need let the builder's council know.
