Yesterday I made and finished all of the contrast straps & flaps for the hats. Then I started to assemble the hat pieces. First I pinned in place then sewed all of the upper
back flaps onto the hats. Then I pinned & sewed the front flaps onto the hats.....

Time for a selfie as I was working.

Then I pinned and sewed the hat visors in place. Then I pinned and sewed all of the ear com flaps and litttle back straps in place. The last thing I did last night was pin the quilted lower back pieces in place. I now need to make extention pieces for the quilted lower fronts of the hats before I can sew those in.

I made the quilted extension pieces for the quilted parts of the hats, sewed them on to the quilted pieces, then sewed them onto the hats. Then I pinned on the extra-wide double-fold bias tape all around the quilted parts of the hats, sewed it on, then pinned the undersides in place and hand-sewed the undersides of the bias trim around the lower quilted portions of the hats.

I pinned the linings into the hats after pressing the hems under, then I hand-sewed the linings in. I was able to get 2 of the 3 linings sewn in last night. I still have to do the third one. I got my Hoth Trooper hat out, so that I would be able to use my goggles to get the correct spacing of the velcro that I will be attaching to the hats. That may happen later tonight.

Here is the lining pinned into the third hat. I still need to hand-sew this in, which will be the next thing I do later today.

I pinned, then sewed all of the white velcro pieces to the hats, plus the chip strap pieces that I made.
I did not put those on the hats I made last year. However, I did later add them to my own Hoth hats, because it is more functional.
I do wear my own Hoth hat as my winter hat and winters around here are pretty nasty. I'm really glad I put the chin strap on my hats, because it holds the back down around your head. This is especially excellent in the wind.

Here is the last hat with the velcro pieces pinned in place.

After thinking about the potential functionality of these 3 new hats, I decided that I would need to add two more pieces of velcro to each hat here at the ear-com flaps.
I do not have the ear-com flap pieces sewn onto my own hats, so I can take them off if I am not wearing it with the rest of my Hoth Rebel trooper uniform. I can also take the goggles off, or wear them either on the visor, or over my eyes. With these hats, the ear-com flaps are sewn in place, so I added the extra pieces of velcro so that they could either be worn with or without the goggles, or with the goggles up or down, and the ear-com flaps will stay in place.

The three new hats are finally complete......
They are not quick, fun or easy to make. However they are extremely functional as a part of the cold-weather Rebel trooper uniform, or as a winter hats on Earth.

FYI: one of these hats takes me on average about 20 hours to build.
