There are updates, Please read last post

Hi again everyone,

I wanted to send an update to the below request regarding display of prop weapons at the premieres.

After further consideration, Disney and Lucasfilm are respectfully requesting that all appearances worldwide, regardless of region, refrain from displaying any prop that resembles a gun at all events (including non-theatrical ones) until further notice.

We hope that you can understand our position given recent events and want to thank you once again for your support and dedication to Star Wars and all the goodwill you continue to spread throughout your communities.

In light of the recent blaster “ban” please do not bring any blasters to any events. Please do not conduct sales for blasters at events, please do not leave them in your armor box, please simply leave them at home. It might be best refer to prop guns as “blasters”. If the public asks you where your gun is, reply in a polite way and not complain that we have a ban from Disney or LFL. A simple answer like “we don’t need blasters to blow up death stars” or “this is a more civilized age” “we are strong in the force” you get the point. The last thing we need to do is publicly disparage LFL, Disney or the legions. We should respect the safety of the patrons of the events we attend as well as the powers that be.

Legionnaires,

Here is the official update from Disney/LFL:

Hello once again everyone,

I’ve got another clarification that should hopefully clear up some of the questions we’ve been receiving. I also want to take this opportunity to more fully explain Disney/Lucasfilm’s position in this matter, as it seems some do not fully understand why this request is being made.

To clarify, we are not questioning our fans’ judgement regarding props and weapons use, we simply don’t think it is appropriate to be appearing in high profile places with prop weapons in light of recent events in Paris. It’s about being sensitive to the events and current situation of a heightened threat around the globe.

That said, we are slightly adjusting our request to fan groups -- we are respectfully requesting that the display of prop weapons, specifically those that look like guns (including holstered guns), not be used for character appearances which have been requested by Lucasfilm, Disney, or our partners. For event appearances not requested by Lucasfilm, Disney or our partners, we would prefer this request be respected but will leave it up to the members’ discretion to decide how they’d like to proceed. Lucasfilm would still appreciate notification for the usual types of events that require approvals, such as retail, corporate, and media.

Thanks all – I really appreciate your understanding in this matter and hope this clears up at least some of the questions we’ve been receiving.

So thus we have three types of events:

(Red) LFL Events: Anything that is from a LFL or Disney is considered a "blaster free" event and this is a mandate.

(Yellow) High Priority Events: LFL is asking us from refrain from using blasters at these events, but it is ultimately up to the event coordinator.

(Green) All Other Events: Use of prop blasters are up to the venue and the Base.

Rebel Legion is expecting its members to follow these guidlines, which is much more liberal than those presented in the original messages.

I appreciate all your patience in allowing our Command Team in dealing with this.

As before melee weapons such as lightsabers, gaffi sticks, glaives and other such items remain open at all events.

I have emailed Pete to confirm what kind of event the TFA premieres are going to be considered. At this point we will treat them as LFL events until Pete get gets back to me. He will be out of the office for Thanksgiving until 11/30/15. I should know more then.

Thanks,

--Bill
