Per request Smile

You will hear the terms Informal and Formal a lot around here regarding event sign ups. This little primer will help you understand the difference, and may help new event coordinators decide how to catagorize their events.

An event that is formal requires you to wear a Rebel Legion approved costume with FORMAL status. ALL events requested of us from Lucasfilms (LFL) or a licensee of LFL, will automatically be a FORMAL event. These have included lately, Clone Wars theatrical premieres, Star Wars: In Concert appearances , Disney Star Wars Weekends parades and the like. These are usually invites involving the entire organization with multiple cities having the same troop on the same day, though they may be localized in some cases... (Star Wars Weekends for example)

Event coordinators putting together local troops where we are on Television (certain large parades) or filming a commercial or other event where there is media present and we need to put on a good show as we are Promoting the Rebel Legion brand/name, should classify these events as Formal and require a formally approved costumes.

You absolutely must be a full legion member in good standing to participate in these type of events.

An informal event is usually a 'grass roots' style troop, where a smaller organization or charity has asked us to come out on the local level. Generally these include Toy Drives, Free Comic Book Day events, Charity Walks, events already open to the public where they may be in their own costumes, (conventions specifically) etc.

At informal events you can wear an approved RL formal costume, an approved RL informal costume, or if approved by your base commander a costume you dont have in the roster yet or custom costume. You may still be required to be a Rebel Legion member to participate, however, or an invited guest, or newbie who hasnt quite made it into the legion yet if its not a public event.

Being a handler at these informal events is a good way to start out and decide if the legion is right for you!

Note: It is per LFL request that we maintain a policy where you must have at least ONE formal costume to be a full member of the Rebel Legion. After that, you may have as many informal costumes on the roster as you wish!

Base commanders and event coordinators may have final say in local troops if they are formal or informal based on conversations with the person requesting the appearance. Please check with your base commanders if you ever have a question regarding wearing a costume to an event.
