What we'll be doing / Why we are there: YEAR 2 of Discover the Desert!
We are going to have a full day of fun in the sun out at Buttercup Valley.
Arrive at the ranger station at 8 am.
Transport out to Buttercup Valley (From the BLM) –Play in the sand dunes in costume from 9-noon --local photographers will be invited to join us for the fun! This is our reward for all the hard work we'll be doing that day!
Come back to the Ranger Station @ Noon to get ready for the public opening of the event.
From 1-3/4pm work our public booths and displays that center around the desert, film, the arts and Star Wars!
After the booths close down at 3, we will then move to the film station and watch a movie on the big screen under the stars. This year’s movie is still being decided, but several are being reviewed. Dune and Spaceballs are options!
The public booths will include displays of art and photography, desert infographics and information, meet and greets with 501st legion (and other invited clubs, Art show and Contest, coloring and other kids activities, etc. The whole event is open to the public *FREE*)
We also have our own booth(s) for the clubs—props, costumes, helmets, guns, etc all needed—message Lesley for this—we are going LARGER this year and want to do a 10 x 20 display if we can.
YES we have a changing space—big garage area, lots of room. –the WHOLE garage—no cars!
YES they’ll have water—but bring extra just in case. It’ll get hot even in January.
YES food—but not free. BLM has to cover costs somehow, so bring some cash and or snackies—they’re working on food trucks.
Schedule of events: (Subject to changes and updates)
9-12 Photos out on the Dunes for the clubs (501st/RL/Mercs/Droids)
1-300 PM Hang out at the booth section in costume—Art Show, Displays, food vendors etc.—characters needed here!
1-300 PM the BLM is taking public tours out to the “Great Pit of Carkoon” –will need characters here too—We need to get our own drivers to help out with this! We CANNOT hog the peoplemovers this year.
3-330 PM announcements and art show winners.
430 pm Film showing at Ranger station (outside film screen)—bring your CHAIRS
1. Why did they change the location of the movie from the pit to the Ranger station. Bathrooms and the fact that 30-40 knot winds are always possible.
2. I have a wimpy little car, how are we gonna get out there? They have hired 2 people movers. We will send a team out there first to set up. Be prepared to go before 1 pm. We are ACTIVELY looking for OHV owners and their drivers to help out
3. But I want free food, where is it? Sponsorship is limited for this engagement and they need to use their vendors. Pack a sack lunch and throw it in your bin.
4. Will there be freebies? NOPE. That’s not what we troop for. Now we do get to go hunting out in the set area where the barge was—and what we find we keep!
Requested Characters: ANY!!
Number of Characters: The only limit is what we can pack into the garage…and we’ll take shifts if we must.
