Watching the new trailer it looks like they tried to keep it very close to the OT gown, although the sleeve folds look longer and the off white material looks like a little different fabric maybe.

Thoughts?

I haven't watched the trailer yet, but her tunic in RoTJ is a light tan/beige

It doesn't look any different to me. Not enough to make a separate standard. The fabric has some texture, like linen, which is the preferred fabric for the RotJ version, anyway.

The necklace looks a little longer, which we can accept based on the reference pictures.

We should get a screenshot of that screen she's standing in front of to use for backgrounds.

I am hearing murmuring that there will be a new standard for Rogue One after all.

How accurate is that murmuring?

Who is doing this mumuring? If you don't read it in this forum, it's not accurate.

Based on the brief shot in the trailer, there is no discernible difference in the costume.

Now, when we see the entire movie and can see if she's wearing the same skirt or not, or something different, then there could be a different version.

Got it! I was chatting with someone in another Base about my WIP, and pondering ideas for the shoulder buttons, and I mentioned I was using both the 2014 OT Costumes book image as well as a close up of her in Rogue One trailer as reference.

It was mentioned that the necklaces are different, and would likely warrant a new standard.

Thus me wondering, since I am at that stage (making the necklace and pendant) in the build Smile

It's not drastically different. The most we would do for that is amend the standard with a variation. You can always submit a reference picture with a costume submission.

We could possibly have the same problem that we had with the ROTJ version, in that we never saw the bottom of her dress until the costume book was published, which prompted a new standard to replace the original one. (fun times!)

You are safest to follow the costume book.

Yep! That costume book and I are dear dear friends ... Wink

The close shot from the R1 trailer I grabbed would be here:

And the shoulder buttons *do* look different now that I look at them zoomed.

the R1 shoulder of sleeves are gathered differently than ep6 as is the gathering at the elbow region. The Pendant is also different. The broaches at the shoulders are rotated and a bit elongated compared to ep6. The details on the broach are different as well.

I have been doing captures and zooming in on them. Once the movie comes out, or a better trailer, I am sure more will be revealed. It just makes sense that she would not wear the exact same over the amount of time between these two periods. She is one of my favorite characters to portray so I get a bit ocd esp after meeting the original at cvi.

Hi there,

I'm looking at making R1 Mon Mothma for my mom for C8! I came across this image which you can zoom in on and really see the detail in the fabric and the shoulder buttons. http://lucky-ducky-123.tumblr.com/image/152837396935

It's definitely very similar to RotJ but the fabric is different, and the materials used for the rope, shoulder buttons, and "pendant" are different. We haven't seen below mid-torso on her yet do we won't know until the movie and or the Visual guide book comes out to know if the bottom is the same as in RotJ or not.

The fabric used in R1 I am 90% sure is a crinkle cotton fabric such as: https://www.fabric.com/buy/0462928/telio-crinkle-yoryu-gauze-white?CAWELAID=172000510000914098&cm_mmc=google-_-Google+Shopping-_-GS_fabric-_-_mkwid|sFg6nr8PI|pcrid|46683858482|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|&utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_campaign=Google+Shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=sFg6nr8PI|pcrid|46683858482|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|&gclid=CMel4bzOpNACFc1ffgodVAwCuA

I would definitely argue that the R1 and ROTJ costumes are different enough that they will need separate standards. They are two different costumes.

The biggest differences are in the sleeves and pendants as has been noted above. But there is also the sleeve seam that is visible in the R1 costume, which makes me believe that it's constructed very differently from ROTJ, and the piping around the neck on R1.

I've collected these observations on my blog as well, but it's nothing new if you have read this thread.

Agreed. And we have yet to see the bottom part, all we have see for now is the tunic and necklace and they share similarities as they have differences.
I was going to make the new version but since the metallic rope for the necklace was nowhere to be found I decided to make the ROTJ version.

After a third viewing, I can see big differences in the necklace. The cords appear to be shiny, and the center of the shoulder knots are different.

The tunic looks like crinkle cotton.

There are definite gathers at the shoulders that the ROTJ version doesn't have. Looks nice!

Hopefully we can get some photos of the bottom half.
