Is it possible that one of the pouches on Luke's ESB belt rig is this?

KUKER RANKIN POCKET TRANSIT TELESCOPING HAND SCOPE W/ LEATHER CASE

I don't think so. Luke's pouch has a definite "cap" on the bottom end.

Oh definitely. Some models have the cap. I did image searches for vintage hand scope leather case. It's a surveying tool. I ordered one that looks similar on ebay. It looks about the right size and shape. If this is what I'm looking for I'll use it to develop a pattern for when I make my Luke ESB costume.

also Luke's pouch has a very strange shape to it.
it's wider at the top, and almost "squished" on the bottom half.

the shape is very similar to THIS

^^ you may be onto something. after pouring through dozens of photos ,
I think you're right, it's probably a vintage "Scope" pouch of some kind:

either a hand-held telescope (like the Ebay link above), or a WWII rifle scope...
or maybe a "surveyor's" scope, as you suspect.

given the fact that the rest of his pouches are all WWII surplus .. I would lean towards a hand-held military "telescope", (similar to the Ebay link above).

the tell-tale shape says "telescope" to me

I was wondering if the fact that Luke's pouch is larger at the top, perhaps the prop dept tried shoving a kobold flash or some other slightly larger prop into it which stretched the leather out. Some people refer to the pouch as holding his Droid caller.

Yeah that one you linked definitely has a similar stretched out look like the screen used one, just with a rounded bottom vs the cap. I'll post pictures of the one I purchased when I get it
