Took a jab at 3d modeling and designed up the ring for the M1 helmet.

Here's the file if anyone wants to try and print it. I haven't gotten around to doing it myself yet. I used a model of a M1 from the autodesk community. Seemed to be the right size but may need some fine tuning.

Once I get mine printed I'll report back with how it goes. But if your feeling adventurous, here it is:

Nice! I look forward to seeing how yours comes out. How are you slicing this for printing? (assuming your printer's print area can't do it all at once)

In Slic3r I can do horizontal cuts, I just cut it into 3 pieces for easier printing with few supports. Also because my print bed isn't big enough for the whole thing.

Yes, I use Slic3r, too. Just wondering about slice placement and print orientation. I'll have to slice it up a bit, too, since my print area is only 6x6x6".

I really need to get my printer unpacked so I can start printing again, and test this out. Smile I'll let you know how it fits my vintage M1, if I get it printed.

Thanks for sharing your files. I'm just getting into drawing in 3D so it is interesting to see a finished file.

Awesome! I finally got my printer up and running, so as soon as I'm through the worst of the print queue backlog, I'll have to see how many pieces I'm going to need to slice this into, to fit on my print area. LOL

Mine's only 150x150x150mm (6" cube), so I'll probably need more than that. And I don't want a slice right down the center of the front, so I might hide the join line in the grooves, if that works out, so likely still more parts.

I've asked a contact of mine about printing one of those off for me.

Thank you for making this available.
