Hey all. About to finish my generic jedi and I'm wondering about the lightsaber clip.

Do I have to use a covertec wheel or can I use something else-say a cellphone clip?

it would depend what it looks like.

for example the judges don't require actual 'steadler' pen caps..
..they just want to see jedi food capsules which look like 'jedi food capsules'.

the jedi belt clip is equally visible (and iconic) -- it needs to look like a jedi belt clip.

covertec doesn't sell them anymore, but these things are readily available.
(the original factory is still making them under a utility patent).
http://swbeltclip.com/

you can get them at the custom saber shop (among other places).
http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Covertec-Clip-P117.aspx

Dave@saberbelt sells them too (but it seems he's out of stock right now) -- contact RL username: "lgtsbr"
http://www.saberbelt.com/CovertecClips.htm

the judges also accept the 'round' style covertec (looks like this)

and the 'square' Hasbro style (looks like this)

but they won't just accept a generic 'cell phone clip' ,
especially not while the original screen-used part is still available for only ~$10(ish).

hope this helps. cheers!
