Hi all,

I recently came across this thread. I'm part of Prop Store and also authored Star Wars Costumes: The Original Trilogy for Lucasfilm.

The two vests from our last auction are absolutely originals from 1976 - no chance they are from Rogue One.

It's true reference photos for these characters (in ANH) are scarce, and sometimes the costumes are confused because many shots in the opening sequence are flopped, showing the pockets on the wrong side.

Here is an ANH photo confirming the triple pocket configuration. I've enhanced the levels to make it visible.

Best
Brandon

Thank you for taking the time to clarify this point, Brandon!

Can someone point out the middle seam of the rear bottom pocket, that makes it four section and not three? I do not see it. Just asking. It looks like a large pocket in the middle of two smaller ones. And I almost see a square of velcro on top of it, maybe. Or is that just an illusion made by wrinkles. Maybe I have been looking at it for too long.

It does appear that there is 3 pockets on the bottom of the back of the vest

...the central pocket is large and the two side pockets are smaller.

Those jacket were mass produced so there are difference between them. The costumers don't take care of do it all identical.

I study a lot the 2 original jacket in order to produced my screen used jacket and it appeart that there are three pockets in the back,.... or four

2 little 1 big pockets or 3 little and one big pockets

If I have one made, can it have the closures for the tri pocket seen on the other one sold?

I don't see why not...
those tab closure hold downs are commonly seen in the SW universe...I would give it a thumbs up...

My seamstress and I have studied these photos for a while this afternoon and She seems to think that the 3 "magazine" style pockets are in front of one large pocket.

In other words the front of the large pocket is made up of the 3 skinny pockets. She also thinks there may be Smaller pockets in front of those as well.

I pointed to something that seams to be just over what we think may be the top of another pocket on all 3 maybe.

does any of this seem plausible? If not then I will just stick with the written costume standards. She's just trying to replicate what she see's and I wanted to ask before moving forward. She is trying to figure out how to construct the separation. Thanks

I am going to put some of the closure loops for the flaps though. Makes sense to me instead of them just hanging loose.

OK, That makes sense. As for the tri pocket we will just follow what is written in the Costume standards and just make the regular three sectioned pocket.

LOL

It is just that one of the seamstress who produced the original jacket do a mistake on one jacket

Why? because it is a mass production and the part were produced apart and next they start the building of the jacket with all in order to save time

no velcro here

either/or is fine...

for the most part the Velcro would be hidden...you can only see the Velcro in the one photo because the pocket flap is a bit askew...

I use velcro a lot with these costumes, and you can see where they have also in some of the photos.

On a different note, is that one large semi-circular pocket on the left side of the vest, similar to the pockets on the tech and pilot coveralls?

It is what I call a "half moon" pocket and is similar to the hip pockets on Pilot and Tech coveralls...also similar to the one pocket on Han's ANH vest.
