YUP! Me too! I knew I was going to go the umber wash route so painting the snout a gun metal made sense in my head. (I just didn't know if in the end it would look right, but sand paper and more paint fixes that!)
I had to respray that back panel today on the helmet itself as the layers of grey got washed out in the steel wool sanding process. So next up will be spraying that down with the wash to tone down the grey, but not completely cover it.
I think I may be ready to call the helmet paint job finished... but there may be another detail that I'll want to touch up. After Denver Comic Con this coming weekend, I'll start on the leather templates. _________________ Alpha 75 - "No Instructions? No problem!"

Commlink acquired, thank you Garbz!!
Resin has already been washed down and gently scrubbed. It's ready for light cleanup and primer. This was an awesomely clean resin piece!

I'm looking forward to painting my tanks and assembling the bandolier!
I started painting up the commlink today. I'll get the photos up when I'm done! _________________ Alpha 75 - "No Instructions? No problem!"

Con recovery day was spent sanding, priming and painting my commlink!
I went with a flat black base:
Then the bottom portion (top in photo) was airbrushed with a mix of red-brown and flat brown paint.
Then I used hull red to paint the stripe and add the lettering.
Then I weathered it using gun metal and flat aluminum paints.
I may airbrush some umber wash on this to keep it consistent with the grimy weathered look of the helmet! _________________ Alpha 75 - "No Instructions? No problem!"

Work has commenced!
Got my leather cut out, stitches put in place. God I love having a vintage sewing machine that's all metal and a powerful beast.
Meanwhile... CT-11613 is assisting by working on a scratch build for the tanks and we'll be custom shaping out the shoulder armor too!

LOL.
I HOPE to have this done before March of 2018, but that's probably very ambitious of me.
I had a swearing moment when working with the contact cement. Some dribbled onto the newspaper I was using.... forgot about the dribble... and accidentally set my helmet upside down on it. Now I have to sand and repaint the crown before sealing up the paintjob. *weep*
I have to take some sandpaper to scratch up the leather. I like the look and color of the leather as is, but it may still need some dirtying up for both RL and 501st standards.
For attaching the scope, I think I'll use magnets instead of glue and a screw as an anchor. There might be less chance of breakage that way. I just see the scope as something that can be snapped off. With glue and an anchor, I can see the resin breaking. (Granted, it could break even with the magnets, but it's a thought.)

What a bummer! Something looks off to me about the proportions on your tanks but I can't put my finger on it... _________________

Today I'm taking a mental health day from work.... so I took out my aggressions on sanding the crown of my helmet and repainted it. By the time I was done... it started storming here which threw my lighting into whack in the garage. So I may or may not be done repainting!

Even though the cement was annoying your progress is great. It's really looking like Boushh's helmet now. _________________

Thank you!
Next up is to scuff the leather and add some weathering to it. Once I call the helmet done, I'm moving onto soft goods. _________________ Alpha 75 - "No Instructions? No problem!"

Time to add more detail, yes more, to the helmet!
Today I took rough and medium grit sandpaper to the leather. It doesn't take much pressure at all with this leather, so a few gentle swipes did the trick. I also took my acrylic umber wash and brushed it light to heavy in places and then wiped in circular motions with a paper towel. Per Major's suggestion, I started taking my photos with the flash. The reference photos that exist are taken with heavy flash. So taking photos to review with a flash helps to copy what you see and capture the details. I immediately noticed a difference in my photos. The depth of paint layers really comes through now.
I do like my weathering, so my personal challenge is to reign myself in and stick to screen references as closely as possible. I think I'm happy with the leather, so now I'm moving onto adding some depth and detail to the damage on the crown.
