Come down here. You can change my oil in it. I'll also let you muck out the carbon room at work. You'll be as dirty as you ever wanted to be.

David,
I think some of the vests are the same ones worn by the Spec Ops troops (M69 variant) and also a few of them are modified ESB "Hoth" vests without the quilting. If that is the case they are probably black and dark blue in color (probably both colors actually). There are also a few vests in a dark brown color. Some have the same comm unit located on the top left as seen on the Spec. Forces troopers and Hoth vestsl, but no other detailing or pockets that I can tell. If you notice in that one photo of the signal group, the vest in the lower left actually has visible buttons too!

What are our feelings on the dark vests? We see these on starfighter fuel crews as well as on techs at technical stations (but not the big mission board).

To me the vest looks like a steamlined Hoth vest with a smaller/ slimmer neck roll. It is also possible this is a old flak vest, since it has a set of fasteners on the inside of the right half.
For comparison, here is a vintage Flak vest

This is 80s vintage, 70s vintage and earlier had sides ajusted with shoelace like cord.

I watched the movie for the fourth time and found no correlation between boots (jacks/ SpecOps) to the jacket.

[quote="G'nott sH'urr"]With the new movie there are differences in the classic *[EDIT] Alliance Technical Specialist. They are also seen working on equipment as well as driving the chariots. Some have vests, most have commpads, and only a few have helmets. The suit is highly weathered. Boots are visible and appear to be RFT style boots, bloused at the top. The belt is a PLCE belt.

    PROPOSED STANDARD:

Alliance Technical Specialists played an important role in the battle against the evil Empire. The technicians ensured that the fighters , droids and equipment were in full working order allowing the rebel pilots to bring the fight to the Empire.

    REQUIRED ITEMS

    1. Coverall: Accurately constructed tan coverall with mandarin-style collar and pointed tab, rectangular pocket with a flap closure on upper right arm, 2 upper thigh pockets and 4 leg pockets. No visible zippers or snaps. Coverall it is bloused at top of the boots. Movie coveralls were highly weathered from constant use.
    2. Belt: accurately constructed dark khaki, British Khaki, Olive drab or dark tan with a roll pin buckle; a PLCE belt is screen accurate. Belt should have five mini-flare loops that can be empty or contain mini-flares.
    3. Boots: Black or dark brown boots with rounded toe and smooth finish. RFT type boots are acceptable. Coverall is bloused at the top of the boots.
    4. Three dimensional Pilot style comm pad in left sleeve with correct movie style colors on buttons.

    OPTIONAL ITEMS

1.Helmet: Accurate tech helmet in white or light gray with a matching color comm box on the left side. Comm box shall be accurately scaled to the helmet. Chin cup on helmet is clear or white as seen in original trilogy scenes.
    2. Antenna in helmet comm box. Antenna is vertical when worn.
    3. Silver mini flares may be worn in belt loops. A mix of empty and filled slots is allowed.
    4. Accurately styled dark grey, black/dark blue or brown vest worn with rank badge by some technicians. Vest should have no front or back pockets, but should have a rank badge holder on the upper left front.

It seems that the techs wear a modified Hoth tech vest with no quilting on the front and possibly side pockets???

I inverted the picture in MS Paint and I concur that this is a pocket. We need to find a front view of this trooper or other so that we can see the span of the pocket. We know the height. Is it a Hoth pocket without the quilting and oversize neck roll? that is very likely. The neck is still present but not quite as "inflated". the techs in the commo section of the room in the pictures above also seem to have these pockets. The pockets do not have flaps.

honestly these look like they were patterned after old Flak Grenade vests like were used on R1 troopers.
the pockets are in different location and there is no side lacing but otherwise similar.

The proposal will need to be edited to reflect the front pockets.

The new "mini flares" are actually air line hose fittings. Specifically 3/8" ones with a quick-release on one end and a barb fitting on the other.

Available in the us are close:

One's available in the UK are what they used:

On the one's from the UK, notice how the barbs are closer together. Wink
