For years there was almost no interest in this costume, and now its become quite a topic.

As we have seen on the recent R1 discussion, having more optional creates confusion.

Upon looking at this all again, I think we need three PATHS for this costume as previously mentioned.

Ground support (Rampers and drivers with helmets )

Technical Support (starfighter fuelers and droid handlers no helmet)

Tactics room with Racal minlight headset.

There's nothing that says you cant have all three approved. Mine is with the helmet and belt and shoes. But--I like helmets.

I would support this concept.

You gonna be one of those guys that swaps hats and calls it a costume change? Cool

Yep, not seeing an issue with that. As a BCO I would rather have my members costume variants be reviewed, approved and published than be surprised at a troop with something, substandard.

I have my Tech helmet on the workbench currently and I'm going to try and create some landing light sticks to add a bit more than a "hat swap" to this one.

I don't have an issue with it either. The 501st Imperial crew costume can also be a TIE reserve, Imperial Navy, TIE Pilot, and Gunner just from swapping out some costume bits.

I've submitted my costume as both a Hangar Tech with the helmet and Ground Crew without the helmet. Fingers crossed! Smile

Edit: Both costumes approved!

It has been brought to the judges attention.

A copy and paste of what I posted in a similar discussion:

I will be up front about the fact that personally
I don't see removing a helmet as a new costume...
as a judge, I felt a little "forced" to accept and approve as "new costumes"...

IMHO...as MacBragg already stated...
Just like the Celebration Scene at the end of ANH was a last minute and thrown together scene, some elements of that scene were taken at face value and not written into any standards.

For example, in the Celebration Scene photo...the X-Wing Pilots are NOT wearing boots...they are wearing street shoes...

or..
if you look closely, some of the RFT's are wearing the Pilots leg flare holder/leg flares.

Clearly...these were just a matter of filling the screen with bodies in some kind of costume and I am sure that no one at the time of ANH would have even thought that 40 years later people would be combing through these photos/screen captures.

These aberrations in some of these scenes were seen as just that
and not even considered as a "new" costume...
you will not see a "Celebration Scene Pilot" that has street shoes...
and we did not write "leg flare holders" into the RFT standard....
there was a lot of complaining about the requirement to have a RFT helmet and there were people who brought up the Celebration Scene again that showed some of the RFTs with the tan/cream long billed hat....

after months/years of arguing, that "Celebration Scene Trooper" Standard was added...but...to be honest...VERY few of them were ever made (after all of the discussion and argument) because...
well...
who in the general fandom even recognizes that RFT with a hat? Did anyone see RFTs with a hat in Rogue One?

Most members do go for the standard RFT helmet for the sake of being recognized in public...

Again...I don't see removing a helmet or adding a headset to an already established costume as being a new costume...
I am guessing that we should have wrote ONE standard for the Yavin "Tech" and added the other things as "optional".

just my 2 credits...

as a matter of fact...
I have 2 Yavin Tech costumes...
one in gray and one in tan because at the time, no one could decide what color they were
does that mean I should submit two new costumes by just removing a helmet from each of them and
then submit two more with a headset?
Laughing

All mine are submitted and approved. Still need to get whatever changes to the standards going.

Honestly if we can have three different standards for a vanguard trooper, I don't really see why getting standards or standard updates to include these variants is such a difficult topic. Lets get it going Smile
