Well, without photos it's hard to judge, but pen length sounds about right.

These are the ones I am copying:

The originals are here:

I am only doing the smaller tools not the bulging clear one.

Please let me know how my friends prototype looks in relation to the winged tool. I shall tell him to make them pen length.

Cheers,

Long pen length. Smile

The winged one looks close, but the wings appear to be turned upside down. Bit long below the wings, too.

Best of luck.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback, I have requested the maker to shave down the length to 16 cm. Also, I will pass these comments on about the wings.

Cheers,

Well, it has been a while since I posted anything. However, if you want to graduate from Library School at University you just have to put your course work first. Now that my last assignment is in there is time to work on the tabbards and obi. I am happy to say the templates are finished and ready to copy on to Solvy. Solvy is a water soluable plastic stabilizer that is just perfect for this project. Just imagine not having to use tissue paper and tweezers to remove the templates from the finished embroidery! It is very simple to remove stabilizer from your finished pieces. Just dunk in a tepid bucket of water and agitate for a few minutes. Then Presto! Hang up your tabbard and obi pieces to dry before sewing them together. My tabbard sections are 80cm long and 15cm wide.

Here's the tabbard and obi photos with my raw silk outer tunic. The outer tunic fabric has been dyed with Jacquard Acid Dye #604. I was lucky when I bought the fabric as it was already dyed for me! This is the best I could do with the colour range available at the time. As Australia has only ONE specialist silk supplier who sells raw silk retail.

J. Nu Back Tabbards and Obi

As I said in a previous post the tabbards and obi patterns are a combination of cannon photos from Dressing a Galaxy and from back of my friend Sair's. My aim was to be as accurate as possible but with some slight differences on the back. As there are no photos of what the back tabbards and obi look like.

If you got any comments please make them soon 'cause I am starting the copying process on to Solvy sheets today.

Cheers,

Your pattern is looking great. Very Happy

Just noticed the pouch. Is it the final pouch? Because then it looks too light. Should be more a red-brown color. If it's just a placeholder then ignore my comment.

Hi Laura,
I can understand your concern about the pouch colour but the photo's colour can be influenced by the lighting conditions on my camera's sensors.

However, I have now started the embroidery of the tabbards and obi of my costume. I struck a couple of snags literally! I tried doing double twin needle satin stitch with my sewing machine. A big fail --- lots of snags --- skipped stitches and so gave up on Plan A. On to Plan B just doing twin needle with straight stitches ---- no go here either -- same problems occurring. So my machine doesn't want to quilt using twin needle stitching at all. On to Plan C --- 3mm single row satin stitch -- my sewing machine is happy with doing this embroidery stitch and so sticking to this stitch only. This is the best I can do without paying $25.00 an hour for a commercial embroidery house to do it for me. I would be loathe to take this option because the single satin stitch embroidery is very slow..... Moral of the story the more layers you have in your quilting sandwich you need to use less complex embroidery stitches. The dark brown thread on the silk top will still have the visual pop the original costume had.

Best of luck with it, and good to hear about what your learned with the needles and stitching.
I can't wait to see the result of all that embroidery. Smile
