Star Wars Reads Day is an international event that celebrates reading and Star Wars. It was launched in 2012 by Lucasfilm and its publishing partners Abrams, Chronicle Books, Dark Horse, Del Rey, DK publishing, Klutz, Random House Audio, Scholastic, and Workman Publishing. During this event we have the opportune moment to provide STEAM workshops, as well as events which promote reading and the library! With our Star Wars scavenger hunt customers are unintentionally introduced to what CPL libraries have to offer. From audiobooks, DVD’s, fiction, nonfiction books, music CD’s, and what each public service desk offers as well. With this game, we can enhance it by having children utilize our library’s webpage and catalog increasing their research skills.

During this event we were able to pull in others who do not usually feel the need to visit the library. They were thrilled by our pearler beads, and shrinky dink stations. Although the children are engrossed with the “art” in STEAM, they were even more enthralled with the “science” of the creations.
