The RLSC Detachment CO asked: "Why do you want to be the Squadron Commander and what plans do you have for Spice Runner Squadron?"
Let's be honest - our section of the Kessel Base forums has been pretty dead except for election-related posts. According to our roster (last updated nine months ago) we have two dozen pilots plus four reserve pilots, but there could be more of us. Over the past year or two I have heard about multiple individuals (existing RL members as well as potential recruits) indicating interest in becoming a Rebel pilot, but we seem to let these people fall through the cracks.
As a squadron, we haven't really been doing much. I want to be the Spice Runner Squadron CO in order to change that.
I hear about the shenanigans of Hazard Squadron, and I see all the cool merch that our TIE pilot counterparts in the Wildcards are getting, and frankly, I'm envious. However, I believe that there's no reason why we can't be just as awesome as they are. If elected as Squadron CO, I have a list of plans which would all contribute to my two goals of 1) encouraging our pilots to be more active, and 2) increasing squadron pride and morale:
- spearhead a long-overdue patch/coin run
- create a Facebook page for the Squadron
- ensure the roster is kept up-to-date
- do a better job of welcoming new pilots and assisting those interested in making a pilot costume
- organize ourselves into regional flights, much like the Wildcards have the Aces High (NTX), Idiot's Array (CTX), Crazy 8's (STX), and Joker's Wild (WTX)
- assign numbered call signs, like other squadrons in RLSC do
- keep track of and post a monthly mission report of the number of "sorties flown" (number of troops attended by our pilots)
- bestow recognition, a special title, and bragging rights on the pilot that flies the most missions (attends the most troops as a pilot) in a year
- organize a special event and/or some kind of ongoing competition with the Wildcards
I was honored to serve Kessel Base as Assistant Temple Master this past year, but my X-Wing pilot has been what I nearly always troop in outside of conventions, ever since debuting it at Celebration Anaheim. Being a pilot has been a lot of fun, and the more pilots that are present, the more fun it is! I think my plans would infuse some life and excitement into our squadron, and hopefully those of you casting votes will agree! |
