In which forum or thread would discussion of the Maz Kanata costume belong.

I don't find any standards for it, either.

Thanks,

Hi JediKai,

I guess here would be the appropriate forum!

Regarding a standard, I don't think there is any yet. And to be honest, I'm not sure you could even validate a Maz Kanata, for (I think) the same reason you don't have Yoda. Maz is 1m24 tall and thus you would need to be around same length to validate, like you have a minimum height to be wookie or wampa. :s

But judges would have to vote about that I guess to confirm the height problem.

You are going to do this costume ? Would be cool to see anyway Smile

Hmmm. By that reasoning, how does anyone get approved as a Jawa?

I do know she is 4ft 1in. I'm "just" a foot taller.

Well, I only expressed my fear :s, I'm neither judge or able to decide that. I'm not so much in favor of such politics about height, specially for wookie for example, where you could just do a wookie child if smaller :p

Regarding the jawas, it's actually something I often see being criticised by members when you have tall jawas. So I can't tell you why exactly, my guess would be the following:
- Jawas are not face characters, for who standards are usually stronger.
- Even if the average size of jawas is 3ft4in, some can be taller than 5ft, almost as tall as C3PO apparently. It seems you can see one of them during the scene where they sell 3PO and R2 to the Lars in ep IV.

Hi, Kai. Long time no see.

I've seen a few people do Maz costumes via face paint. One of the major silicone mask makers does a very nice Maz mask. Mr Bungle I think. I'll try to find some info.

That's a good argument. I'll support you

Thanks Matt! Do you know whether any of them are approved for RL?

I don't know. I haven't looked, but I would guess no one has attempted a Maz in the Legion, yet.

Not sure why Mr. Bungles link isn't working, but you can find it on Facebook. His page is Mr. Bungles FX Stuff.
I saw the mask in question at DragonCon in a display for the costuming track. I'm not sure if it's wearable as I don't see any eye holes and I think the character eyes are to far apart.

Are you still in the Seattle area?

As soon as the new LMO is announced you might pm them and ask the question. Maz is pretty short so my guess is she is not eligible for most members to make. Jawas have references for ones that do come up to Luke and C3P0's shoulders in ANH and there are a few taller ones in some of the prequels. Rest assured a 6 foot tall Jawa would never happen.

You might be able to get away with making the LEGO version of Maz from the Freemaker series since all LEGOs are the same height. Again, that is a matter for the LMO to determine.

If you are going to do a MAZ you will most likely need to do a silicone mask much like those that are done for Plo Koon or Nien Numb. The Alien judges could help you decide the best route.

Maybe a hardshell helmet could work also.
Alternatively this is really cool too https://www.wholesalehalloweencostumes.com/blog/maz-kanata-makeup-tutorial/

Not sure why this is even an issue. Jawas are not discriminated by size, nor are face characters. As far as Chewbacca goes, you can make yourself taller, but you can't make yourself shorter. That would be unfair and discriminatory to deny approval on something that is beyond one's control.
