I was trying to buy a matching fabric for the dark Luke Skywalker costume from the new movie and as everything i found was either the wrong color while being unable to be dyed or too fine/too coarse, i learned to knit by myself. The problem now is, i am taller than Mark Hamill and probably weigh a little more. That means, i could try either the correct loop size or the correct loop count or the shirt will be too short.

My question now is, wich one is more important for getting approval? Or will little differences be OK, as it is really difficult to get the exact screen used knit?

I count 40 loops width on one front panel from the screen used shirt, that means it takes about 120 loops around Mark Hamills chest. That would make one loop somewhere between 7.5 and 9mm wide, having no idea about Marks measurements. Using 7,5mm loops a man with a 110cm chest would already need 150 loops instead of 120. Using 9mm loops a man with a 90cm chest would need only 100 loops. I did my first try with a yarn that is just a little too fine and i have about 180 loops around my chest now.
You see, this is really difficult. But what exactly should i aim for?

As much as most people would want their costume to match the screen used dimensions, I would venture a guess (I am not a costume judge for the Legion) that it would be more important that your costume be proportional to you so that it fits you properly rather that matching the correct dimensions.

I'm taller than most of the actors I costume as so I have to scale my pieces to fit me to look right.

I'd forget about loop count and stick to loop size. This is also what would happen if you bought fabric and need to adjust it to your frame. Smile

That is exactly what i wanted to hear, thank you! Very Happy
I'll just treat it as a normal fabric. I will now start a WIP thread to show my results.
