Perhaps you could continue your usefulness and answer the following question...

Do the straps (chin strap and the three on the back) on a home made AN-H-15 type cloth helmet have to be brown?

I have an old black leather belt I want to use for that purpose on mine if it's allowable, but I can't seem to find any reference photos showing the straps in black.

There are all sorts of variations to the AN-H-15, even in Return of the Jedi there are various variations if you look closely at the pilots in the briefing room scene. That said, I've never seen any with black straps. Black cheek pieces (with the snaps) sure, but I haven't seen black straps. I've seen them with light brown straps, dark brown and tan. The cheek pieces I've seen tan, black and brown, and the chin cushion I've seen black, tan, olive green light brown and dull yellow. I'd stick with those colors, honestly.

Try Googling "AN-H-15" and look through the different variations leather colors, see if one catches your eye. But keep the cap tan/beige.
