Thanks for sharing your experience.
I haven't told the others yet, but I count on using a cotton voile as an underlining if the velvet and washed satin proves too slippery. That's what I do with my silk velvet and it's essential with that fabric. Might get a walking foot, too.
Of course, it will add a little to our overall cost, but I'd rather pay a little extra to get a good end product. And luckily cotton voile is pretty cheap.
The good thing about washed satin is that it is less shiny than your regular satin. Looks like sandwashed silk actually. Very nice medium sheen. _________________ DXO of Royalty & Senatorial detachment

I think we (read: I) have found a good fabric for shirt and pants. At least the others all liked the swatch, so I count on fabric shopping some more in the beginning of next week. _________________ DXO of Royalty & Senatorial detachment

So, I'm still waiting for a call from the store that the fabric has arrived, and now I'm getting a bit nervous, because I may very soon be leaving town for some time, and therefore really need to pick it up before then. So, crossing my fingers for a call tomorrow. Or friday.
In the meantime; pictures! I thought you might like to see the fabrics in question.

Oh, I realize I never updated you on this, but the fabric did come and I ended up buying a whole bolt instead of almost a whole bolt, because I could get 10% off that way making it cheaper overall.
So that's another 40 meters to my stash, wrapped in a plastic bag and stored under my bed.
For those who are counting I now have 110 meters of fabric for making matching senate guards. _________________ DXO of Royalty & Senatorial detachment

Thanks. Any idea how to wash this much fabric without having to cut it into lots and lots of pieces? Mostly the velvet, actually. That stuff is heavy. _________________ DXO of Royalty & Senatorial detachment

Oh no, yes that is hard especially with something this heavy. When we've done it before we kept it in as large sections as the washer could accommodate.
It requires several people to manipulate it during and after. _________________

*looks at self* Hmm, yeah, can't really splice myself into multiple people. But I'll probably start with the lighter fabrics and figure out what to do about the velvet later. I don't like not prewashing fabric. _________________ DXO of Royalty & Senatorial detachment

Understandable.
It was just LadyB and I and 50 yards of Silk Noil. It was quite a task. _________________

Fun, fun. And silk absolutely have to be prewashed due to the fairly high shrinkage. _________________ DXO of Royalty & Senatorial detachment
