(Hopefully!)

After about 9 months, just submitted my first costume. Wish me luck, rebels.

Your costume looks very good to me (says someone without a registered pilot costume yet).
I like your helmet especially with the weathering and the fancy "earcups" / padding inside.
May I ask what the cables are for?

Thank you, AgnesAUT!

The cables are for the headset when the pilots were in their X-Wings or Snowspeeders. In ANH, the mics were (mostly) on screen right (helmet left/port as you wear it)* and in ESB they were screen left (helmet right/starboard).

The mics were not built into the X-Wing buckets!

ANH

ESB

To see the full headset, check out the scenes of gunnery posts in the Millennium Falcon or the rebel command team back on Yavin (or even the crew of the Nostromo in Alien). The original real-world headsets were Racal Minilite Amplivox headsets that are super rare and expensive now.

I tried to approximate them with two adjustable Motorola headsets that fold away into the helmet so that you can稚 see them. The USB cable can be unplugged at the same time.

Motorola telephony headset with adjustable mic:

*except for when they flipped a couple of shots.

Very nice job on the costume! Did you make the brown ear cups for the helmet yourself?

Thank you, Blue Banshee Leader.

No, the earcups were made by ImperialBoots as part of a rebel pilot helmet padding set.

Aside from a tiny bit of sewing and a lot of painting and weathering, this costume is the work of a lot of other people.

I was looking at getting a set of those earcups myself, looks like they are worth it!

Great job you look damn spot on, even as skinny as he was! I can't tell but did you weather your straps a bit or is it the filter in the picture?
