Ok so after serious thought and talking at length with a few people ive decided to go for esb chewbacca .
Decided to start a wip
Paul smith has given me some great advice along with jamie
I know this is going to be more involved than my tk and getting that to centurion level but looking forward to the journey .

I have sourced the mask from Jamie. pending deposit and after seeing the makers work first hand its what ill be going for ( unsure if its right to post pics of other peoples builds with masks from the same maker )

Now i believe is to decide how i get my height . Im 5 feet 10
So lifts or stilts
What height do i need to be ?

Also the mesh suits . Not a sewing machine here so hopefully can get something sorted

Any guides on the mesh suit ?
Where to buy ?

Once the above is sorted then will be asking alot more questions esp with regards to how far apart the latches are etc

Looking forward to this journey Smile

Dave

I would say stilts at your height. You can get bucket stilts @ steppinupinc.com or drywall stilts @ 15" would work good for you and then build up the foot.

Mesh suit: Get the utility mesh from Joanns and use the coupon for savings and also a pajama pattern.

As you're in the UK an alternative mesh is this stuff which I used
http://collinsnets.co.uk/product/black-fryma-mesh-1-5-mtrs-wide-per-metre

You will need to make your own suit from it but it's not hard (I'd never used a sewing machine before last September). Buy a pyjama pattern, use some old material to make a test suit (we used an old duvet cover) and then use the test suit panels to cut the mesh. Sew the seams by gripping them between folded lengths of binding tape.

Note: Don't use the above as reference for your costume as it's still WIP (it's booked for a trim on Tuesday!) and hasn't been RL approved.

How many yards of material do you recommend?
Do I make the suit as if it will fit me and just extend/widen legs arms?
Would you recommend getting the shoulder pads first?

In order:

I ordered 10 metres (of 1m x 1.5m) which was too much and I still have about 4m left. If you make the test suit first you can calculate exactly how much you need - don't forget to include some extra to make the covers for stilts or lifts.

Yes, get the pads first to make sure it all fits.

Had these jogging bottoms laying around .
Mesh on the inside
I know they would need extended but...
Unsure if
1: holes are big enough
2: strong enough
3: maybe completly wrong .

Was just an idea my wife had Smile

Done a mock up with lifters ..14 inch and all good so now going to redo and make lighter as i only used what i had lying around .
So will update that when ive done them and add some pics .

I did find a thread on the undersuit but ive lost the page and cant find it even in history .
Showed sketches etc

Ive found a seamstres 2 mins walk away . £50 to sew up a undersuit so panic averted and no need to buy a sewing machine

They did ask how the seams had veen done on other suits
Bonding tape ? Zig zag pattern

Im trying to explain what i want

Can someone or does anyone have a guide on how the undersuit sits and shape etc

Cant wait to get started

Hair should be on order tommorow soo all good

Glad you found us, brother! Welcome!

The Jersey mesh is probably not the best for this. The one linked above: http://collinsnets.co.uk/product/black-fryma-mesh-1-5-mtrs-wide-per-metre Looks closest to what I've got myself Smile

Messing around with lift ideas while waiting for mesh and hair
Bottom base 14 inch plus toes when they arrive from jamie

Two differnt foot platforms .
Foot shape and pill type shape
Just under 2 inch shorter than the foot base
No sides to legs yet will add those at the weekend along with either sandals or trainers fixed

speaking from an engineering perspective, your stilts are bound to break. The use of the plywood platforms will break and wear out over time from walking. Also stacking your lifts all in the same direction means that they can domino in either direction. Its a good starting idea, but I think dangerous as they have a lot of failure points that would make me nervous to wear in an actual trooping event. I would go back and adjust materials used and construction design to remove possible dangers

Thanks for the input .
Take on board all comments and help Smile
These are just ideas i been playing with . Utilising what i had lying around to get an idea what i wanted to do .
Get size of base and foot plate which can then be transferd to mdf.
The idea of possibly usingdrain pipe at heal or centre give stability and lightness .
Then add side supports to knee

Centre of lifts i plan to change regardless just wanted to get a idea od style that would work for base and foot area .

Trainer will be added to the base also . Or sandal Smile
