This looks like fun. Mardi Gras in the Cajun capitol needs a Cajun Jedi.

From our POC:

Good Morning Rio Parade Performers!

We are now one month out to the 15th annual Rio Parade, which will be held in downtown Lafayette on Sat, Feb 15, 2020. Here's the main info that you'll need to share with all your group members.

1. TRANSPORTATION. Groups participating in the parade (excluding bicyclists) park at Cajun Field and are transported via shuttle bus to the parade launch site on Surrey Street. All groups being shuttled must arrive at Cajun Field no later than 4:15 pm. Greek groups wait for shuttle at fraternity and sorority row. Shuttles begin at 4:30. Groups who have their own bus transportation can be dropped of at Surrey Street and your bus can park at Cajun Field. The parade ends at Cajun Field taking you right back to your vehicles. I will provide map in next email.

2. STAGING: Once your group arrives at Surrey Street (known locally as "Pontiac Point"), there will be a designated spot for your group to gather (signs posted in the ground). All of our floats will be lined up on the right side of the street, groups are staged on the left. Our Parade Launch team will meet you the shuttle to assist you.

3. LAUNCH TIME: The parade begins promptly at 6:30 pm. With 650 riders and over 450 performers, it is important that you stay with your group and arrive on time.

4. ROUTE. The parade route is about 3.8 miles. The entire length of the parade route is barricaded. For us and for the Lafayette Police Dept, SAFETY is priority 1. Parade-goers must stay behind barricades and there are police officers every 100 feet along both sides of the route. We want the crowd to see and enjoy your group's performance. Therefore, Chaperones are asked to dress in team colors and walk behind (not along the side) their group. Wagons with water/first aid are permitted behind the group as well. Chaperones may NOT stroll or include younger siblings. Because this is a night parade, we do NOT include children under junior high age in our parade. All about safety.

5. NO EXIT. Once the parade begins, there is NO place to exit the parade until the end. Participation in the parade is a commitment to walk/perform the entire route. There are also no comfort stations along the route. Port-o-Lets are available at Surrey St Lineup and at Cajun Field for the convenience of the performers. If you have a member who must exit the parade (no re-entry), walk up to a police officer for assistance with opening a barricade.

6. STARTS/STOP. During the parade your group will experience several stops. That means the first float has stopped for a minute or two. Use these unscheduled stops for performance as you see fit. If you choose a brief rest during these stops, keep your group members AWAY from the barricades. This helps to keep parade-goers from engaging your performers or trying to cross barricades.

7. NO THROWS. Your group is NOT permitted to toss, throw or hand anything to the crowd. No beads, no advertising, nothing. Again...safety, safety, safety.

8. END of PARADE. The parade technically ends at the gates of Cajun Field on Bertrand Drive. Our parade does not go through the Carnival at Cajun Field like other parades do (it won't be set up until the following weekend). Once your group goes through the gates, we'll have a Coke trailer w/complimentary cold drinks for your group and well as Port-o-Lets.

9. Last but not least, please be aware that the Rio Parade is not an event staged by the City of Lafayette. It is entirely produced through the annual dues and volunteer efforts of members of the Krewe of Carnivale en Rio with assistance from Lafayette PD. We reserve the right to limit participation to groups/individuals who agree to provide a family-friendly performance. Those groups who do not abide by our policies will not be invited back.

That's it. All the tough stuff. Now we're ready to have BIG FUN.

Our POC has a few questions for the groups.

1. How does your group plan to arrive at Surrey Street lineup? Will you be dropped off at Surrey or will your group arrive at Cajun Field for shuttling? If you plan to shuttle, we need to know how many.

2. Groups with their own music need to let us know how you plan to broadcast your music. Your own truck and driver? Your own speakers? Your own generator? Please let us know these plans.
