Hey,

Since the photos are all dead in the belt tutorial sticky, I'm trying to figure out what folks do for the optional belt flares?
Haven't seen anything on Etsy or WampaWear.
They're silver, they're the diameter of a pencil, and what else?

If it helps any, here's a photo of mine. They're metal flares, sold by ElvisTrooper (you should be able to google him pretty easily).

And here they are on my belt. (the center hole lets you stitch them in place, or some people use rivets or screws)

Is there something specific you wanted to know about them?

Some people use short wooden dowels and paint them silver (which is what the OT ones are made of). I have the same as Kman, aluminum flares made by Elvis Trooper and they're beautiful little things. He also makes some gorgeous code cylinders...

Painted dowels here. Glued in after I finished the belt.

Silver Filament and a 3D printer makes short work for these as well...

I am pretty sure that the Elvis trooper aluminum belt flares that many members (who have been here a while) have were 3/8" of an inch in diameter. Larger than a 2 pencil.
Whenever I sewed up a pilot belt, I always made the loops to fit a 3/8 inch rod so the Elvis trooper flares would fit properly.

I know that I had asked before (a long time ago) what the source was for having 1/4 inch diameter flares, but no one gave an answer to that question.

ElvisTrooper's miniflares certainly look the right size, visually, on a standard 2" belt. Makes me think 1/4" flares would look smaller than they should be.
