Hello! I'm currently in the 501st, but in the mid to distant future I would like to start working on a RL kit. I'd love to do Ackbar from ROTJ, and I have found a reasonable head and hands online. The rest of the kit looks fairly doable, but I would love to have a little guidance. In terms of the jumpsuit for example, what would be a good starting point? I've looked at white painters jumpsuits and things like that, but I'd love to hear from some ofher Ackbars. Any other help is also much appreciated. Thank you!

Yay, more Ackbars!

This thread has links to the reference images and to files to 3-D print the belt:

As far as the jumpsuit goes, I'll poke a couple of our Ackbar's to see what they used.

I have a polyamid cloth for my ackbar, that my tailor used. silk would also work or plain cotton. Poly gives a nice shine to the suit though.

For the Vest I would go with Cotton or polyamid, I have a cotton one and like the rough feel to it.

Would a jumpsuit like that work for a base? If I could have the stripes just sewn up the side. Also, does the head have to be tucked into the jumpsuit? Or can it just rest on top if covered by the vest?

Ironically for Star Wars, you probably want to look for some without the action back. It would depend on how the action back sits on your body whether it is visible or not under the vest. But yes, a white coverall should work. Remove the pockets and add the yellow stripe.

I would recommend wearing the mask over the jumpsuit and under the vest- just make sure the vest is tailored so that it curves with your shoulders and hides the edges of the mask.

Sounds good. I really appreciate you being so helpful. I will probably have more questions in the future. Thanks!
