Hi, I'm working the Option 1 jacket version of this costume, and I think I may have found a couple of minor issues with the standards, solely as it pertains to this specific variant:
ISSUE 1: MAIN JACKET DESCRIPTION:
Quote: | REQUIRED ITEMS
1. Jacket or Vest:
Option 1:
-Medium to dark brown jacket. Fabric with a fulled/brushed texture and no visible weave (similar to melton wool) is preferred.
-Mandarin collar with the rows of topstitching spaced about 1/2 inch apart.
-Wrap front closing left over right with no visible closures. Left flap has a curved edge per reference photos.
-Belt is threaded through a slit in the left flap, and the buckle/closure is hidden.
-Jacket front features princess seams curving from the sleeve across the bust.
-Jacket back is fitted to the waist through the side seams. The bottom flares slightly and features a jacket vent.
-Jacket has a center back seam.
-Jacket features shoulder seams running from the collar to the sleeve on either side.
Optional: Weathered fabric Starbird patch on the left shoulder. |
ISSUE 1A: BELT REQUIREMENTS
Sooo first issue is with the belt requirements:
"Belt is threaded through a slit in the left flap, and the buckle/closure is hidden."
This is actually fine a written here, and per the original standards discussion thread, this was specifically altered to accommodate a low profile closure for this specific variant. All good. BUT. the way the standard is written, the actual entry for a belt, with a specific buckle, is still listed as a required component, for all versions:
Quote: | 4. Belt:
-Golden brown to dark brown leather belt, 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 7 cm) wide.
-Weathered, silver toned, solid rectangular buckle with rounded corners. Buckle should be the same width as the belt.
-No visible rivets. |
Perhaps the belt buckle line could be amended to add something along the lines of "No specific buckle is required for the belt with Option 1 Jacket"?
ISSUE 1B: JACKET DETAILS:
Next, a jacket construction detail:
"-Jacket back is fitted to the waist through the side seams. The bottom flares slightly and features a jacket vent."
What is a "jacket vent"? And where is this located? It sounds like it's referring to a split in the center of the back bottom edge... and there is such a split in the long sleeve cross-over version with the quilted lines on the shoulders, BUT again, the Option 1 version of this jacket has no such split.
ISSUE 2: SHIRT REQUIREMENT
And finally, the shirt. I don't have any issue with the shirt description, as it applies to the other variants. But why is a specifically-constructed shirt called out, when whatever is worn underneath this jacket is not visible at all? This is a high neck jacket that's always worn closed. You can't see any hint of what's underneath (if anything LOL), so why should a special shirt be specified, for this specific version?
I think a line should be added, carving out the shirt requirement for the Option 1 jacket.

This standard is in the revision process. The draft for TFA Resistance Officer A will be posted shortly; the standards revision team has been working on these for over a year now.
There is in fact a single back vent on the Option 1 (what will be Option A) jacket. In this reference, the officer in the cap is wearing the Option 1 jacket.
