I realized I should probably start a thread for my Cara Dune build, so I have some good references if I ever finish. haha.

We'll start with materials/supplies I've used:

PANTS

I've posted a tutorial/step-by-step for the pants on the "Cara Dune" highlight of my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/danibeedabbles

The final product turned out well, and I'm pleased. They still need a waistband of the black textured fabric to sit under the belts.

ARMOR

My armor was 3D printed by my wizard of a friend who has his settings ON POINT. One coat of filler primer was all these babies took to shine Cool

I tried "toothpaste weathering" for the first time, and couldn't be happier with the results!! For those who aren't familiar with this method, it's easy:
1)Paint a metal base coat
2) Apply toothpaste whereever you want the final paint to "chip"

3) Paint as desired

4) Once the paint is cured, grab a rag and rub the piece to pull the toothpaste off and let the metal coat show back through. Worked like a charm!

Here are my armor pieces:

GAUNTLETS

The gauntlets/bracers/whatever we're calling her arm pieces didn't give me nearly as much trouble as I thought they would.

I made them out of teal vinyl and found them relatively easy to pattern/make.

VEST

I started with the McCalls M7352 pattern, since the seams were pretty spot-on. I made a mockup and had to just add seams for the underarm contrast panels.

First order of business on the vest was to create the striped side panels. There had been various discussions and methods in the FB group for the best way, but I ended up creating a template on my Cricut, and then applying puff paint in a textured manner to get the look.

The rest of the top is made from my PLS (parallel life studios) fabric. I added webbing for the front armor strips, and spaced them using the D23 costume reference photos, since my fabric matched the pattern of the screen-worn, I could use the hex pattern for layout/spacing.

I still need to finish lining/zipper and add the black vinyl strip around the bottom. But so far, so good!!

The collar finally came together nice, and I'm happy with the final product!
Here is a short tutorial:
1) Cut collar shape. One out of foam, One of black knit, and one interfacing. (Photo of Danny Redman's pattern I used from Facebook)

2) Fuse interfacing to black knit and Sew piping border around black knit (I failed and forgot to sew any Velcro on to attach it. 😂 Do yourself a favor and sew some Velcro tabs to the bottom of the black knit at this point)

3) Add ridges in the foam piece at back center and Paint foam to match

4) Glue piping around the foam

5) Use heat gun to shape as needed

MISC

Weathered the metal bits, and I'm pleased with how gross they look Mr. Green

HOLSTER

Took some time to figure out the pattern, but I'm happy with the topstitching and details I was able to capture.

Still needs a strap over top of the blaster. (And my blaster still needs a lot of paint/love)
