this project has been on the back burner for me, but I still really want to do this. (I've wanted this costume since I was a little girl) I've been up in the air about either embroidering the cape or painting it, I can do both and with I'd really like to embroider it it'll take a hecka long time (I'm quick but not that quick) the painting I was help up with the idea of puff paints, I just don't like them, they eventually start to crack and I didn't want that to happen. Then about 15 mins ago I decided to check to see if a brand of fabric paint I used to do my Visas Marr came in a rainbow of colors, and guess what? it does as well as a rainbow of metallic colors. This stiff is really nice and once heat set it's even dry-cleanable.
http://www.dickblick.com/products/jacquard-textile-colors/ I think this is the route I'm gonna go once I get to making this _________________

Assyl, it's so cool to see your progress . After watching your Visas Marr, I'm honestly really excited to see your Besbin Leia .
I LOVE this costume, I think it's the coat that I adore so much, but everything about it, the hair, the colors, just love it . I'm eager to see what you do and then I might ask you about the embroidery because I might try to make it too . _________________ Check out my blog: http://anartistslifeline.wordpress.com

so yes, I'm necro posting in my thread, but it's my thread and I can do that ^_^
I'm getting closer to the point that I can actually start on this costume. I think I've found the perfect rust/nutmeg color material
option 1
option 2
option 3 (silk)
I feel these are all ok choices, but I want to hear from other ladies which one/s they like the best. I'll be order samples of everything within the next couple of months. _________________

I like #2 the best, but I'm not an expert on this costume. _________________ Check out my blog: http://anartistslifeline.wordpress.com

option 1 is 97% Polyester/ 3% Lycra and option 2 is 96% polyester/4% lycra.
Option 1 says to wash on gentle/tumble dry low, option 2 says dry clean BUT I work in dry cleaning and I'd still wash it on gentle with cold water but hang to dry. So both comfy fabrics. _________________

I like fabric #2. That looks pretty close to what I used for mine (although I used 100% silk fabric) _________________ http://padme-skywalker77.blogspot.com/ |

It looks like Thai Silks no long carries that color. I'm still searching but I like the 3 that I've found, I'll order some samples to see what they feel like and what they look like in natural lighting. I'm also going to order samples for the cap/jacket fabric so I can find the one with the right level of see through-ness. I'll probably have to do a custom dye for the liner, but I've got all the supplies to do that whether I choose silk or polyester. _________________

My husband is currently digitizing the pattern I got from Maggie, in preparation for use as either a template or in a program to convert it to an embroidery machine file. He'll be posting the final file once he's done with it _________________

Hi! The husband here.
This is what I've done so far. The entirety of the base is complete. I'll be starting in on the "fish scales" tomorrow and close up the open areas. Oh, ignore the lines, they mean nothing.

Uh! Thanks for sharing.
And I like all the fabrics, so I think seeing them photographed is the way to go. It's always so hard to judge from fabric sites. _________________

OMG. THANK YOU. This is a long term project for myself too. I've had most of what I need for close to two years, but the embroidery pattern has been holding me back. _________________ Alpha 75 - "No Instructions? No problem!"

If the pattern can be converted to an embroidery machine ffile, that would be so awesome! Great job _________________ Stay on Target |
