Can anyone share the kind of fabric used for the outer and most importantly, the inner tunic? I think that a crinkle gauze in chocolate brown would work for the outer, but, I can't find anything close to that is screen accurate for the under tunic. Also, where to find it, please.

I have the screen-used silk Trisha Biggar used for the under tunic. Its no longer being made as far as I know. Here's a close-up:

Thanks, Matt. I've seen the picture of your under tunic in other threads, but, my question is, what do the people who aren't fortunate enough to find the screen accurate fabric use? If that is no longer available what would be a good substitute?

For the outer tunic, I (and many) people use a crinkle cotton gauze and dye it to the appropriate dark brown. This fabric is thin, so you either have to double it or use a liner. Have a look in the Jedi Tutorials forums for a thread on fabrics Wink

You can get the cotton gauze from many places, and it's available year around. JoAnn's does carry a "potting soil" brown cotton gauze, but it's really not dark enough.

It seems I've got a dyeing recipe (for the Anakin fabric) posted somewhere around here, but if you can't find it let me know and I'll dig it out of my notes.

Quote:
The outer tunic uses a type of waffle crinkle cotton. Many like to use crinkle cotton or a gauze fabric in order to give it an appropriate texture and pattern. These are the most widely available, and not to mention inexpensive, fabrics and can be found at JoAnn's or similar fabric stores. The screen-used fabric has a more defined waffle-like pattern and is quite thick. Unfortunately, the exact fabric has not yet been found.

Quote:
The exact fabric has been found but is currently out of production. Only a couple bolts were found in the San Fransisco area and those sources have been spent. To aid in the search for more of this fabric, here is the info on the make and color.

Name of Fabric: Stretch Crepe
Fiber Content: 95% silk 5% Lycra
Color: Sable # 194

This is from SOTS (sonsofthesuns.com) the ultimate Anakin site. unfortunately the forum was hacked and a lot of data was lost, but the site still contains info on the ROTS costome.

I hope it helps Smile

Actually, that helps a LOT! Knowing that the inner tunic was a stretch crepe give me something to look for. Thank you so much!

Here is one I found in a quick search.

it's more expensive than I would like, but, you really only need it for one sleeve and the collar area. (a little bigger than a collar). I think I'm going to order a swatch and see what it looks like in person. This might be a good option for people to use.

I found this one on ebay, but, it's difficult to tell if there is any texture.

The color looks very nice but I don't see any texture in that fabric.

For outer tunic fabric, here is the link of the closest fabric I've seen.

I believe Cloth Ears Costumes used these. But the fabric itself is pretty expensive.

Is that 34.5 pounds per yard??? If so, HOLY COW!!! That's almost $70/yard (US).

Yeah, it needs dyeing, but
$4/yard

and
