The thing is, in Episode I, most of the Jedi council members have this woven style belt, and really, only Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan use the style that would be standard from Episode II on. So really, it's hard to say. It seems they didn't really invest too much in the belts for the Council in the beginning, but when the second film introduced such a huge number of background Jedi, some uniformity was required, so they churned out dozens of what would become the "official" construction of the belt. You can see this in the change between Windu, Mundi, and Gallia in TPM versus Windu, Mundi, and Allie in AOTC - both of them get upgraded costumes that are much more regulated in design and accesories.

This is certainly a matter of interest, which hopefully the judges can clarify for us.

Thanks for that, Tag.

Here are a few images of the same style of belt on the council members mentioned. As I mentioned previously, the original belts were obviously made from recycled belts, it is probable that the mass produced ones were brought in for the later movies as those members had a larger role. How could these belts be restricted to "Face Characters" only? I guarantee you that they wouldn't have been thrown out after the first movie, most likely these costumes ended up on extras, generic Jedi, in the later movies. Wardrobe departments are well documented as using such recycling!

yes thats exactly my concern, if its going to be a Generic Jedi the "suede" material on the belt might be a problem :-(

Actually, with it being woven, the smaller belt isn't always exactly on top of the big one, is it now?
Neither would I personally classify that buckle as 'movie style'....
Most buckles at least have the illusion of being functional....

Again, great belt, but it is unprecedented in some areas, so
the LCJ's should have an interesting matter on their hands here.

It would be best to have the LCJ's speak to this directly rather than speculate. I've made this kind of belt (Ep 1) for a friend before who was approved as a "generic" Jedi, but there are different judges now.

The only suggestion I would have is to make sure the dye colour is even. The rest looked decent to me. If suede is an issue it can always be polished to loose the fuzz and be more patent style leather.

If you look at the above reference pictures, you will see that the woven belts there have much bigger weaves, like 50% behind, 50% in front. My weave is a lot tighter, the majority of my thin belt is on the front, about 80%. The loop behind is like having sections of a belt hidden by belt loops on jeans.

And I apologise to differ, but I've seen only one functional buckle in all the movies (Anakin, I think), to me, the rest have no illusion of being functional.

I don't know how to dye leather, that's something I intend to learn in the near future. Coming from the Mandalorian Mercs, I am used to wanting to weather all my gear, making it look old and used. As such, I weathered this belt, making it dark (dirty) in the open areas and leaving the light colour in the areas that would be protected from wear. Was that the uneven colour you were referring to?

Here's that link to Jedi Kai's belt tutorial that I promised.

Thank you all for your constructive feedback. It has certainly helped me tweak my costume and given me ideas and understanding for my next project!

It is. It just seemed overly sharp in some places between the original color and the "weathering" such as under the smaller belt. Just softening it a little would be fine. Ben

Thank you, I shall weather it more, then. It was a quick job, happy with the results but also happy to continue! Wink

It is a very nice style of belt, and you have three references for that style, so that should make it legal. Smile

Only the buckle could be a problem as I see it.

This standard Jedi belt buckle is non-functional, and is basically two D-rings joined by a piece of metal. Exactly the same concept as my buckle. So, I'm a bit confused as to why my buckle should be a problem. Would you be kind enough to clarify your concern, please?

Many thanks!

Bad shifts and procrastination are dragging the chain on my last element of this costume. All I have to do (if the belt is ok) is finish one belt pouch. The first one was done in one evening. This one is a copy of that one, and has slowly taken shape over two weeks...

Have fun, y'all! Fyr

So what's taking soo long? Have you forgotten how to do it. You know, if all else fails, I'm sure you can find a tutorial (a dummies guide to) somewhere.?

Yeah, it was "An idiot's guide to understanding Austrian accents", I believe. As for the pouch, I may have finished it earlier if someone didn't have half the leather I need at their place! I call that obstruction... Wink
