Comment: Golden Gate Garrison has just been sent an entry application to the Oakland Holiday Parade. Oakland Holiday Parade is one of the three largest parades that this Garrison attends each year, "with nearly 100,000 spectators expected to view the parade live and tens of thousands more viewers watching the television broadcast". This parade will be televised by PBS affiliates, as well as KTVU Fox 2. We would really like to see at least thirty (30) costumed members at this parade. All 501st Legion & Rebel Legion members are really, really, really encouraged to attend.

Oakland Holiday Parade Rules wrote: | OAKLAND HOLIDAY PARADE RULES
In addition to the 501st Legion and the Golden Gate Garrison's Code of Conduct, the following parade rules will also apply:
1. Non-Costumers - This is a televised event. Non-costumers (including family, friends, handlers, photographers) are not to walk on the parade route.
2. NO THROWING OF FAVORS FROM PARADE ROUTE. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS as spectators (particularly children) will run out into the road to retrieve favors and could be struck by a moving vehicle. This is a serious liability factor, one that has resulted in injuries in other major parades.
3. NO BLASTERS (NOT EVEN HOLSTERED). Please leave your blasters in your bin. We are not authorized to have our blasters holstered.
4. NO PERSON OR ARTICLES HANGING OVER THE SIDES OF FLOATS OR VEHICLES. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! This is a serious liability factor that could result in personal injury. If a unit is in violation of this rule, it may be removed from the parade immediately.
5. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. Alcoholic beverages are NOT allowed on any participant or in any vehicle. IT WILL BE CONFISCATED. Participants consuming alcohol prior to or during the parade will be removed from the line of march.
6. VEHICLES: All vehicles must carry a current dated 2A10BC fire extinguisher.
7. ENTRY APPEARANCE: All participants must appear in uniformed attire or costumes. Small children under the age of six may not appear in the parade.
8. GET ALONG WITH EVERYONE: This is a holiday event and as such, everyone is expected to be in our best behavior and be respectful of others. |

Just FYI... my work schedule had changed and I have signed up to go on the GGG 501st boards.
They need a specific number of people signed up by this Friday or they may to back out of the parade. If you are tentative, please confirm if you can attend or not!
Thanks!

I'm available for that one! Yay! Do we have our blades available for later or should we have them mounted for the parade?

Yes, Light sabers are ok to use as it is a "Light" parade and they give off an awesome light!
We have used lightsabers in the past parades!

OOPS!! I thought I was responding to a post for the Niles Parade! My Bad!
But yes, we have used the lightsabers for this parade in the past!
I hope you can all make it!

I checked with Ed Karl about lightsabers. Posted rules from parade says no weapons of any kind real or fake. But we have had lightsabers with blades in 2011, and just hilts in 2012. His call is that lightsabers are ok, but can not be waved around and no dueling. So I leave that now to RL CO to make the call.

I was going to have a lightsaber blade turned off, but with red ribbon around it to look like a candy cane. _________________ "You like me because I'm a scoundrel."

That should be fine Matt. I think the blades are ok to have just so long as we do not wave them or duel with them. They do not look like real or fake weapons, so it should be ok.
